Atkins seeks an energetic and highly motivated self-starter to join our FEMA/Water Resources Team as a FEMA Management Specialist/Planner in our Lynnwood, WA office. 

 
 
MAJOR FUNCTION/ROLE
 

Applies knowledge of the National Flood Insurance Program and the Risk MAP program by providing communications and technical support to clients and community stakeholders out of the FEMA Region 10 Service Center. Candidates must have a thorough understanding of floodplain management, hazard mitigation, and risk communication.

 
 
JOB DUTIES
 
  • Supporting the training and outreach lead, duties include NFIP-related technical assistance.

  • Ordinance review.
  • Newsletter editing and publication.
  • SharePoint site administration.
  • Database maintenance.
  • Training coordination and facilitation.
  • Performs such other duties as the supervisor may from time to time deem necessary.

 
 


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
 

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Planning or related degree. Minimal experience required with Bachelor's degree. No experience required with Master's degree.

 
 
SPECIAL SKILLS
 
  • Thorough understanding of the National Flood Insurance Program and Risk MAP.

  • Excellent technical writing and communication skills, must be detailed oriented.

  • Prior experience developing training/outreach materials, written publications, and presentations.

  • Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, SharePoint, and Access.

  • Proficiency with online communication and meeting tools (Skype, WebEx, and AdobeConnect).

  • Audio and video editing experience is preferred.

  • Familiarity with ArcGIS and MS Project is preferred.

  • Preference will be given to candidates who have at least 5 years of experience with a combination of floodplain development/permit review, ordinance enforcement, hazard mitigation plan development, and public information or outreach related activities.

  • Completion of FEMA’s EMI E273 course (or equivalent) preferred.

 
 
PROFESSIONAL REGISTRATIONS
 
  • Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) preferred.
  • FEMA PTS or CTP program knowledge a plus
 
 
OTHER
 
  • Ability to process paper/electronic documents and utilize computer equipment; ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing; ability to visit project sites if necessary. Job also requires ability to assemble and analyze data.

  • Occasional travel may be required for this position.
