SNC-Lavalin Atkins business seeks an energetic and highly motivated self-starter to join our Austin, Texas office as a
Field Technician (Archaeology).


MAJOR FUNCTIONS/ROLES

Under immediate supervision of the Project Archaeologist and/or Crew Chief, conducts archaeological surveys, participate in excavations, and document findings. This may include pedestrian survey, shovel testing, monitoring, NRHP eligibility testing, and mitigation. Please note that this is a part time role and is not expected to be a permanent position.


JOB DUTIES
  • This role will be responsible for keeping accurate and comprehensive field notes, photo documenting artifacts, projects areas and sites, collecting and processing artifacts, documenting shovel tests and site locations using a Trimble, and maintaining tools and equipment in good order. 
  • Field techs may be asked to wash and catalog artifacts, enter data into Excel and/or Access, assist with report writing, proposals, and scopes-of-work and budgets, and perform such other duties as the Supervisor may from time to time deem necessary. 
  • Qualified applicants may have the opportunity to advance as Crew Chiefs or Project Archaeologists.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or closely related field. No experience in speciality area required by position
  • Archaeology Field School may be required. Knowledge of applicable state and Federal requirements, especially Section 106, preferred.


SPECIAL SKILLS

  • Knowledge of archaeological survey, excavation, and laboratory methods as required by the project. 
  • Ability to examine and evaluate the condition of artificats and to describe facts and events accurately. 
  • Ability to communicate technical information effectively and establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.


PROFESSIONAL REGISTRATIONS
  • None.


ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to walk long distances, climb ladders, stoop, squat and crawl down into ditches.
  • Ability to observe construction activities and distinguish colors.
  • Ability to perceive back-up alarms and other warnings. 
  • Must be able to work outdoors in varying temperatures and weather conditions, subject to insects, flooded terrain and equipment/traffic hazards. 
  • If position requires driving company vehicle, incumbent must have valid driver's license and a driving record that meets company policy.
