Atkins Geomatics use advanced technology to transform the raw survey data gathered from site into powerful decision-making tools. We offer a comprehensive range of survey and mapping services, from small scale ground-based survey to wide-area aerial 3D mapping. Our team works closely with clients to identify a data collection method that meets their project and cost requirements, and to deliver the insight they need; whether that be to inform the design of a new development, optimise the route of new infrastructure or update existing building or site records for asset management purposes.

The role of Geomatics Consultant is an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to broaden their Geomatics skillset. The successful candidate will have experience in survey, post processing and interpretation of a variety of Geomatics datasets. They will work out of our Bristol office, with the role being a combination of office work and field work. There will generally be a greater emphasis on the office, but depending on project requirements may have periods with increased field work and the need to stay away.

Qualifications

A degree or further education qualification in a Geomatics/Survey related field.

Essential Criteria

Knowledge/experience in the following areas:

GPS/GNSS theory, field use and processing
Desire to undertake photogrammetric processing of aerial derived datasets from both manned and unmanned platforms
Total Station theory, field use and processing
Excellent communication skills in written and spoken English
Hold or able to attain security clearance
Willingness to travel throughout the UK to promote the Geomatics capability to both our internal and external markets

Desirable Criteria
Although an in-depth knowledge of all the below is not essential, experience in a selection of the following would be expected:

UAVs/Drones
Laser Scanning and processing
Aerial Triangulation
AutoCAD / Microstation
Pix4D
DTM/DSM generation
Orthophoto production
Digitising/modelling from point cloud/LiDAR
Aerial Mapping
Business development & Cost estimating
FME and/or GIS
Terrestrial and Aerial photography
Presentation skills

Project delivery in the following sectors would be also be an advantage:

Rail
Highways
Infrastructure
Utilities
Asset Management

Responsibilities

Installing, measuring and processing ground control for aerial/remote survey
Processing of aerial datasets, including UAV
Processing of laser point cloud datasets
Production of mapping/modelling products e.g. CAD drawings, point clouds, orthophotos etc.
Support business development activities and project cost estimating
Contribute to technical development and continuous improvement of working procedures
Help develop the department in new working areas
‘Other’ survey field work – laser scanning, total station, photography, field verification
Liaise with clients during production and delivery of work packages
Represent the business professionally to new and existing clients

Excellent communication skills and ability to define ideas clearly in producing reports
Able to deal with clients and management on a day to day basis
Able to communicate effectively and respectfully with overseas office staff
Able to assess results and draw conclusions / make recommendations
Flexible and able to solve problems and develop alternative methods as appropriate
Be fully self-motivated and able to work to tight and personally set deadlines without supervision
Ability to conform to defined quality assurance procedures and work processes

These are reviewed with individuals through an annual Personal Development Review process. We actively support staff in achieving corporate membership of relevant institutions.

Additional Information
Atkins ADS&T division works in multiple locations including overseas and has an offshore unit in the Atkins Bangalore office. Travel to other locations for training or project purposes maybe required on occasion. These would normally be for short periods up to a fortnight but may be for periods of several months.

Security
This role may require security clearance and offers of employment will be dependent on obtaining the relevant level of clearance. If this is necessary it will be discussed with you at interview.
