GIS Analyst

Atkins seeks an energetic, highly motivated, and detail-oriented self-starter to join our Austin, Texas Office as a GIS Analyst.

Performs work which involves conventional GIS tasks requiring the use of analysis, interpretation, and deductive reasoning to carry out diversified projects or phases of a single project.  Able to detect problems in using standardized procedures due to changes in client needs or project direction.  Assignments have clear and specified objectives and may include:

• Conducts data gathering, conversion and analysis of GIS data.

• Prepares data documentation or metadata for GIS projects.

• Prepares maps and exhibits with GIS data sets.

• Participates in client needs analyses.

• Maintains continued knowledge of technology developments in the GIS field and the use of GIS software.

• Monitors quality control within area of responsibility.

• Assists Senior GIS Analysts in certain aspects of project management.

• Performs such other duties as the supervisor may from time to time deem necessary.

Education and Experience:

B.S. or B.A. or M.S. in Geography, Computer Science or GIS related Environmental Discipline commensurate with hiring discipline. This level may be achieved by GIS practitioners with 2 years of experience since Bachelor's degree or 1 year since Master's. Typical incumbent has 4 -5 years' experience.

Special Skills:

Technical writing and communication skills desired.  Must have the ability to assemble and analyze data, and plan and prioritize tasks.  Familiarity with GIS technology and software packages required.  Esri software preferred.
