Atkins seeks an energetic, highly motivated, and detail-oriented self-starter to join our Calverton, Maryland Office as a GIS Analyst.

 

Major Function/Role:

Under supervision, applies technical professional proficiency to GIS studies and the coordination of related activities.

 

Job Duties:

Performs work which involves conventional GIS tasks requiring the use of analysis, interpretation, and deductive reasoning to carry out diversified projects or phases of a single project.  Able to detect problems in using standardized procedures due to changes in client needs or project direction.  Assignments have clear and specified objectives and may include:

  • Conducts data gathering, conversion and analysis of GIS data.

  • Prepares data documentation or metadata for GIS projects.

  • Prepares maps and exhibits with GIS data sets.

  • Participates in client needs analyses.

  • Maintains continued knowledge of technology developments in the GIS field and the use of GIS software.

  • Monitors quality control within area of responsibility.

  • Assists Senior GIS Analysts in certain aspects of project management.

  • Performs such other duties as the supervisor may from time to time deem necessary.

 



Education and Experience:

B.S. or B.A. or M.S. in Geography, Computer Science or GIS related Environmental Discipline commensurate with hiring discipline. This level may be achieved by GIS practitioners with 2 years of experience since Bachelor's degree or 1 year since Master's. Typical incumbent has 4 -5 years' experience.

 

Special Skills:

Technical writing and communication skills desired.

 

Professional Registrations:

N/A

 

Additional Requirements:

FEMA PTS or CTP program knowledge a plus.
