Atkins seeks an energetic and highly motivated self-starter to join our Lake City, Florida Technology  team as a Sr. GIS/Geomatics Analyst.  

 

MAJOR FUNCTION/ROLE

Highly motivated candidate to help implement a GIS web-based application for the display of various Right of Way mapping projects to the public. This position will be converting and creating attributes to existing geo-referenced lines, curves and polygons which were previously mathematically created, and georeferenced within MicroStation, CAiCE, and various other programs. This position will also be required to perform various CAD tasks related to surveying and mapping. 

Under general supervision, provides strong technical skills and experience to perform standard Geomatics and geographic information system (GIS) work while developing professional proficiency. Performs aspects of Geomatics including raw data reduction, calculations, CAD drafting, GIS data collection, research, and error analysis.

 

JOB DUTIES

  • Quickly and efficiently determines best course of action for assigned work, establishing a plan of attack and a project specific system for the services to be performed.
  • Utilize GIS to display R/W Maps in GIS format.
  • Utilize Bentley Map Features, as well as other software, to attribute FDOT CAD files into a format that is GIS compatible.
  • Utilizes CAD software (MicroStation) to prepare or adjust maps and drawings when applicable.
  • Applies standard practices and techniques in specific situations which may include the following:
  • Conducts data gathering, conversion, and analysis of GIS data.
  • Prepares data documentation or metadata for GIS Projects.
  • Prepares maps and exhibits with GIS data sets.
  • Maintains continued knowledge of technology developments in the GIS field and use of GIS software.
  • Performs such other duties as the Supervisor may from time to time deem necessary.

 



EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • B.A. or B.S. or M.S. in Geography, computer science, or GIS-related environmental discipline commensurate with hiring discipline. This level may be achieved by GIS practitioners with 4 years of experience since Bachelor's degree or 2 years since Master's. Typical incumbent has 6 -7 years experience

SPECIAL SKILLS

  • Knowledge of Right of Way mapping is required. Strong mathematical and analytical skills; knowledge of CAD software (MicroStation); knowledge of ArcGIS; good communications skills; analytical ability; proactive attitude; ability to innovate and improvise. Ability to make logical on the fly. Ability to interpret legal descriptions. Ability to effectively communicate findings, make recommendations, and work with people. Ability to compose clear and concise reports.

PROFESSIONAL REGISTRATIONS

  • LSIT Preferred.

  • Candidate must have valid driver's license and a driving record that meets company policy.
