As part of our 30-year remit to manage and improve the capital’s orbital motorway network, we deliver major improvement projects, such widening 38 miles of the M25, refurbishing tunnels and bridges, and installing hundreds of variable messaging signs and gantries, helping to maximise the use of the network and deliver more reliable journeys. We also manage the Dartford River crossing, and operate and maintain 440 kilometres of motorway providing our customer and road user with a world-class highway service.

We are currently looking for an Environmental Assistant (GIS) to join us here working out of our South


 What you'll be doing:

As Environmental Assistant (GIS) you will be responsible for:

  • Undertaking environmental assessments on engineering schemes;
  • Supporting the requirement of delivering the Maintenance and Operation Environmental Management Plan (MOEMP);
  • Supporting the Environment Team with the management of geospatial information within the Environmental Asset Database (ArcSDE SQL Geodatabase), and AgileAssets (Asset Management System);
  • Ensuring submissions of Environmental Asset Inventory and Environmental Management Information to Highways England databases are completed as required.
Who we're looking for:
Qualifications / Skills / Experience:
  • Current UK driving licence
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in an environmental, geography or related subject
  • Understanding of the Environmental Impact Assessment process
  • Knowledge of ISO14001 and Environmental Management Systems
  • Experience using GIS, related geospatial technology, the creation and publication of GIS content via web services, creation of web maps and web applications as well as GIS systems integration and implementation  : Esri ArcGIS Desktop, QGIS, MapInfo, AutoCAD Map3D., ArcGIS Server, ArcSDE, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Collector
  • Understanding of the use of Geodatabases
  • Understanding of Data Management strategies and standards
  • Basic programming and query language experience (e.g. Javascript, Python, Arcade, SQL, VB)
  • Able to use cartographic, GIS and data visualisation skills
  • Some industry experience preferable but not mandatory
  • Competent in Microsoft Office Applications
