As part of our 30-year remit to manage and improve the capital’s orbital motorway network, we deliver major improvement projects, such widening 38 miles of the M25, refurbishing tunnels and bridges, and installing hundreds of variable messaging signs and gantries, helping to maximise the use of the network and deliver more reliable journeys. We also manage the Dartford River crossing, and operate and maintain 440 kilometres of motorway providing our customer and road user with a world-class highway service.

About the role:

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of managing and improving one of the busiest motorways in Europe, the M25, its key arterial link roads serving central London and surrounding areas, and the A282 (Dartford Crossing).

We are looking for a GIS Specialist & Environmental Assistant to join us to work in our Leatherhead, Dartford or South Mimms office.

This is a unique opportunity to own and be accountable for all aspects of GIS Management and product creation using innovative and exciting new technologies.

What you’ll be doing:

As GIS Specialist & Environmental Assistant you will:

  • Manage, update and maintain our geospatial information using a range of tools including the Esri suite of GIS Software products (e.g. Desktop/Pro, Server, Online and Collector)
  • Manage our Soft Estate mobile inspection software (ArcGIS Collector)
  • Ensure our Environmental Information Systems (EnvIS) data submissions to Highways England are completed as required
  • Assist with map production for Environmental Designated Funding schemes
  • Data management of Environmental and third party mapping dataset.
  • Production of Environmental Constraints Mapping (e.g. vulnerable sites, flooding hotspots, litter/flytipping)
  • Calculate and produce the annual Soft Estate condition profile using inspection data
  • To assist in programming of field surveys and site inspections, including Air Quality Monitoring surveys
  • Assist with the production of the annual Environmental Management Plans
  • Lead on the organisation of the annual Environmental Forum
  • Assist with reporting on Environmental indicators

Who we’re looking for:

You will have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in an Environmental, geography or related subject
  • Qualification and/or significant experience in the following areas:

o   GIS and related geospatial technology (Esri ArcGIS Desktop, QGIS, MapInfo, AutoCAD Map3D)

o   The creation and publication of GIS content via web services

o   Creation of web maps and web applications

o   ArcGIS Server

o   ArcSDE

o   ArcGIS Online

o   ArcGIS Collector

o   Geodatabases

  • ·         Understanding of Data Management strategies and standards
  • ·         Experienced in delivering GIS projects for internal and external clients across the whole       project lifecycle
  • ·         Basic programming and query language experience
  • ·         Excellent cartographic, GIS and data visualisation skills
  • ·         Understanding of the Environmental Impact Assessment process
  • ·         Knowledge of ISO14001 and Environmental Management Systems
  • ·         Some industry experience preferable
  • ·         Competent in Microsoft Office application
