The role of GIS Technical Lead is an exciting and rewarding opportunity for the right person to gain experience managing a team of GIS analysts and project managing GIS analysis projects across disciplines. Whether it is basic constraints mapping for our environment teams, maintaining a webGIS, managing a large scale data capture project or working on High Speed 2. The GIS Technical Lead role is varied with requirements changing month by month.

The GIS Analysis team is young and dynamic. This role will suit a manager with experience of working in an international company who can listen and channel the ideas and inputs of the team making the individuals feel valued.

Essential

Excellent communication skills in written and spoken English

Either a degree qualification in GIS or a related field and more than ten years work experience, or 12 years experience using GIS software

Minimum of five years experience of project managing successful GIS projects
Have appreciation of the issues of, and solutions to, managing remote clients

Proven experience of delivering to deadlines within pressurised environments

Ability to effectively sell the benefits of GIS to potential clients and generate business leads

Prepared to work overseas, on secondment on need basis
Thorough experience using ArcGIS 10x and its extensions
Experience of AutoCAD Civil 3D
Excellent presentation skills and Enthusiastic about the benefits GIS can provide
Proactively engages with clients and Demonstrable leadership experience
Collaborative working

Desirable

Experience of working in a multi-national consultancy

Experience with working and controlling a large number of evolving datasets

Good knowledge of Autodesk Studio, Microsoft Access and Excel

Managerial Role ( Project &/People)

Display strong team management skill
Conversant with the commercial aspects of the project / program management
Proven management skills having had responsibility for completion of project to time and cost
Good knowledge of , and use of, Atkins capabilities outside of Business units
Good leadership qualities
To work closely with the GIS Manager to implement the GIS Analysis Strategy and to help ensure its success.
Be responsible for team’s productivity, holding team meetings to assess current and future workload
Proactive business development in their discipline areas and across Atkins Business sectors
Ensure that project management of GIS or IM work within the team is carried out effectively.
Perform day to day GIS tasks of any level (spatial analysis, data management, digitisation, map creation, etc) for any client of the GIS Analysis Team
Carry out the teams annual appraisals
Responsible for learning and development requirements of the team
Ensure that the wider capabilities of the Communications team are projected to your clients where appropriate.
Ensure that your team is motivated and maintain communication to enable two way feedback on any issues to be given and received.
Act as line manager for members of your team.
Enable members of your team to achieve their career aspirations.
