Background

Atkins is one of the world’s leading design and engineering consultancies.  To support the organisation’s One Atkins 2020 strategy, Group IS have defined an IS2020 operating model which will revolutionise the way IT services are delivered.  Moving from a back office function to a valued business support organisation is essential to enable Atkins to achieve its ambition. The Head of Group IS Shared Services in India is a Director level position, reporting directly to the Chief Information Officer (CIO) and operating as the business relationship link between the local business unit and IT at an executive level.


Job Details

Purpose of the Role:

The purpose of this role is to manage Group IS shared services in India to deliver the necessary capability to support the One Atkins 2020 (and beyond) agenda.  The role is responsible for providing regional leadership and management to align the in-country operations with the global service model and client facing operations.  A key requirement of the role is to establish credibility through delivery of IT services that are valued by the businesses, by building strong working relationships with the business and by driving continuous improvement in capability to meet business need. 

 

The Group IS Shared Service in India will serve the whole organisation, operating as part of a wider global service organisation.  The IS shared services organisation in India is made up of a distributed set of members of global functional teams (end user services, technical services and corporate systems support services) and this role will need to provide local management and leadership to the team based in India, building a culture and team spirit that reflects both the local and global nature of their roles. The role holder will join the Global Group IS Senior Leadership Team and will report to the Group CIO.



You will be required to:

  • Develop the Group IS Shared Services in India strategy
  • Develop key performance indicators and perform continuous process improvement
  • Build and maintain high value communications with the organization’s leadership, customers and staff
  • Create strong relationships with the India business senior leadership team, regularly reviewing performance and agreeing areas for improvement. 
  • Work closely with the functional Senior Leadership Team, ensuring a coherent, consistent, approach to delivery of Group IS objectives and initiatives
  • Work with HR and the India senior leadership team to develop a functioning, engaging, attractive workplace environment for all our Group IS and Global Tech team members in India. 
  • Develop an effective IS candidate attraction approach so that we are able to recruit resources with both strong technical skills and a positive collaborative working attitude 
  • Create a high performing and committed team culture and customer-centred ethos
  • Ambassador for rolling out and implementing the IS 2020 principles in region, responsible for articulating the impact and benefits for the business and coordinating change activity within the Indian IS team 
  • Identify opportunities for automation and self-service, working with the global service teams to drive progress and deliver efficiencies
  • Lead local efforts to identify, deploy and systematize technology enabled process efficiencies 



Experience Required

The Head of GIS Services will be an experienced IT professional with a strong track record of working with businesses to deliver IT services. They will be familiar with the Indian IT market and aware of the opportunities this presents. To be successful in this role you will have…

  • Extensive IT experience at a senior leadership level 
  • Experience in delivering consumer based IT solutions and services
  • Significant experience of running a Shared Service or Centre of Excellence function, ideally having previous experience of the set up and creation ideally in an online media or consumer based IT organisation
  • Experience of using Lean process models to streamline efficiencies and reduce costs
  • Previous leadership experience with matrix organisations structures and leading large, cross-functional teams or projects
  • Previous leadership experience of influencing senior level management and key stakeholders
  • Demonstrable understanding of key tools and processes required to manage IT service delivery, including a track record of consistent SLA achievement
  • Experience of scoping and introducing new digital services
  • Experience of managing & developing virtual teams, including evidence of strong leadership leading to performance improvements
  • Leadership experience to drive improvements and collaboration across all teams Management of a team, including ability to effectively manage individuals to progress them within the organization (using tools such as personal development plans & reviews)
  • Experience of scoping and introducing new service
  • Experience of managing and motivating a large cross-functional team
  • Experience negotiating and managing key client and third party supplier relationships 
  • Management of a global infrastructure organization structure from the India Tech sector and help sourcing staff, technology and partners
