Our Birmingham office is growing their team, and we are looking for a Health & Safety Consultant to deliver CDM Services on a range of exciting projects - this diversity means no one day is the same and will offer you the scope to develop your experience and progress your career.

We require a Health & Safety consultant with suitable and relevant experience, ideally from a design or construction background.


Your contribution:

Technical:-
Responsibility, under minimum supervision, for larger, more complex or
challenging commissions or projects.
Ensuring the quality and timeliness of service delivery to clients, acting as primary
interface to help build clients' confidence in the team.
Collaborating with other disciplines and the client's representative.
Having specialist knowledge.
Keeping abreast of relevant legislative changes.
Participating in relevant internal/external training initiatives.
Applying the principles of quality assurance and environmental management in
compliance with the organisation's Policies.
Good understanding and practical application of the organisation's Policy and
arrangements for managing your own personal safety and the safety of those who
report to you.

Client:-
Acting as account manager for clients, providing service delivery, demonstrating
your role as a key stakeholder and first point of contact.
Playing an instrumental role in generating repeat business, winning new work and
developing new business opportunities.

Commercial:-
Managing commercial aspects of commissions and/or projects including
governance, fee management activities, together with internal job costings,
resource requirements and inter-trading.
Being accountable for the commercial success of commissions and/or projects
placed under your control; including the effective and efficient administration of
project accounts.
Preparing fee proposals and bid submissions.
Complying with the company’s commercial guidelines as they apply to your role.
Controlling workload and resources.
Developing key industry contacts.
Keeping abreast of industry issues and developments in best practice.

Strategic:-
Implementing the business plan, developing business opportunities in line with the
business strategy, and looking for market opportunities.

People:-
Managing and leading teams to enable a strongly motivated, engaged and high
performing function.
Managing other individuals including undertaking performance and development
reviews (PDRs) and mentoring and coaching less experienced colleagues.
Providing guidance, leadership and technical expertise to team members.
Competently communicating and interacting with others, in accordance with the
organisation's values.

Your qualifications: Chartered or near Chartered status in a Health and Safety or Construction related
discipline and member of a recognised institutional body.

Your experience:

Technical:-
Well established commitment to the profession and proven ability in effectively
delivering associated services.
Sound CDM/Health and Safety specialist knowledge demonstrating established
experience and aptitude.
Active involvement on a number of commissions/projects in different sectors
and/or assistance on major commissions or projects with defined levels of
responsibility.
Thorough understanding of CDM regulations and health and safety issues and
ability to knowledgably advise the client.
Effective review of contract documents including contractor's method statements
and risk assessments, and familiarity with contractual obligations, legal breaches
and remedies.
Knowledge of and ability to advise clients' on procurement options and consultant
appointment issues.
General knowledge of current legal and regulatory developments relevant to the
work you do and the law of the region or country in which you practise.
Good understanding of health, safety and environmental requirements applicable
to the business and wider construction industry.
Good understanding of the principles of quality assurance.
Familiarity and effective use of the organisation's (company) Policies, and
corporate systems and processes for delivering tasks.
Confident use of Microsoft Office and other role related software packages.
High standard of proficiency in oral and written communication.

Client:-
Experience of successfully managing clients' and their expectations.
Generating repeat business, develop new business opportunities and representing
the company during bid interviews.
Commercial/strategic:-
Good understanding of the wider Faithful+Gould and Atkins business, including
appreciation of activities outside your own team/region and services offered, and
strategic objectives.
Practical understanding of commercial processes and profitability.
Sound comprehension of Faithful+Gould's financial management procedures.
Full understanding of services to be provided and resource requirements.
Pro-active in terms of generating new ideas and adapting to change.

People:-
Effective people management, including training and mentoring less experienced
members of staff.
Effectively managed a team on major/complex commissions or projects.
