Highway Designer II

Atkins seeks an energetic and highly motivated self-starter to join our Houston, Texas Highway Group as a Roadway Designer II. 
 
Major Function/Role:
Under general supervision, provide design, production and coordination of construction plans, drawings, and computer-aided design (CAD) products in support of transportation and public works engineering and planning projects. Select and recommend design and design coordination procedures.
 
Job Duties:
  • Work involves CAD production and modeling for conceptual and final design of roadway alignments, grading, pavement and drainage, bridges and structures, utilities, and water & sewer systems.
     
  • Responsibilities include using understanding and application of technical design requirements and specifications to provide CAD-based design solutions, including independent design work and design discipline coordination.


Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture or equivalent technical discipline plus five years' experience, or Associate's degree plus a minimum of twelve years' progressive drafting and design experience, including at least four as a Designer, or HS diploma (or equivalent) plus a minimum of fifteen years progressive drafting and design experience, including at least seven as a Designer.
 
 
Special Skills:
Proficiency in Microstation and Geopak required, proficiency in AutoCAD/Civil3D will be considered. Ability to understand and interpret technical CAD resource requirements strongly desired.
 
Professional Registrations:
No registration required; however, incumbent should be seeking applicable registration if movement onto the Engineering or Architecture career path is contemplated.
