We are seeking a Hydrotechnical Engineer to join our Tailings, Water, and Environment Team. The successful candidate will report to the Sr. Director Tailings, Water, and Geotechnical Engineering. Our group carries out a multitude of varied mandates related to the fields of the mining environment and sustainable mining development. We regularly take up the challenge of designing innovative solutions adapted to each client and assisting them at all stages of the life of their mining operation, from exploration to closure. The Hydrology and Hydraulic Engineer will participate in various studies related to water management on and around mine sites at different stages of their development or in the process of restoration.

The engineer will participate in the conduct of hydrological studies to assess the conditions applicable to the sites under study and in the establishment of water and mass balances to guide the design of civil engineering and water treatment works. The engineer will also be responsible for the design of various hydraulic structures for water management, such as ditches, weirs, basins, pumping stations, culverts, spillways, etc., according to the specific needs of each project.

This opportunity will be to support the M&M business located in any of the major cities of Canada: Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Toronto.

Your role within the team:

  • Participate in the hydrology/hydraulic studies to assess conditions required for the water and mass balances.
  • Provide technical support for the design of various hydraulic structures for water management including, ditches, weirs, basins, pumping stations, culverts, spillways, etc.
  • Participate in dam safety reviews and dam breach analyses for water and tailing dams.
  • Carry out spilling estimations, hydrology/hydraulics modeling, freeboard calculation, etc.
  • Support existing resources in the disciplines related to geotechnics, hydrogeology, water quality/water treatment, etc.
  • Carry out various hydraulic analyses and prepare technical notes, reports, and technical proposals.
  • Support existing resources in each discipline as needed.

The ideal candidate:
 

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering with specialization in hydrology, hydraulics or equivalent. 
  • 5+ years of experience focusing in hydrology/hydraulics or related fields.
  • Excellent communication skills in English. French/Spanish is considered an asset.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects of various sizes.
  • Proficiency in the use of HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS and GoldSim software. Experience with QGIS, ArcView or FLO-2D software is considered an asset.

Expected compensation for this role is (between Pay Range $76,000 - $104,500 annually) (Only Applicable to British Columbia). Base salaries are determined according to several parameters like skills, experience, and potential impact on the role. Internal and external competitiveness are also taken into account in our offers.
