The Company

The creation of a new transportation division in Atkins brings together the capabilities of our Highway and Rail teams into a single business of 3,000 talented engineers and professionals. The UK transport sector is experiencing unprecedented levels of investment and Atkins is playing lead roles in a diverse range of projects such as high speed rail, intelligent transport systems, digital rail and the driverless car projects. Our consultants are working with government, local authorities and private sector partners to develop integrated transport strategies to ensure the urban areas we live in continue to work.

The Role

This role presents a unique opportunity to join our dynamic team, to play a role in building and executing our plan for shaping the future. As part of an expanding team you will be contributing to value proposition and bid development, taking a pro-active role in project delivery and develop your own technical capabilities across the growing landscape of Intelligent Mobility. 


Key areas of responsibility will include:

• working with the IM team to develop our technical offerings and capabilities for IM-related services and solutions
• supporting client engagement on new and disruptive technologies, such as cloud based technologies, intelligent infrastructure, new integrated operational platforms, data exploitation and modelling, and multi-modal journey planning
• contributing to new value propositions and test existing propositions
• performing in IM technical or project management delivery roles, working with a multi-disciplinary team to deliver to time and budget 
• taking ownership and responsibility for the delivery of IM-specific assignments

Required Skills & Experience 
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate many of the following: 


Proven experience and technical exposure to several of the iM service themes, as outlined below:

• Strategic Consultancy: Strategic transformation, Advisory,Regulatory, Ethics Acceptance
• Data Exploitation: Mobile Digital Data - insights
• Cyber Security & Resilience: CAVs/AVs, Cyber advisory
• Reimagining Infrastructure: Understanding of the impact of CAVs/infrastructure integration
• Smart Transport: Smart Tolling, Parking, V2X connectivity, Customer and user experience
• New Transport Platforms: MaaS, Total Transport, Scheme design & integration
• Strategic Commander: Dynamic, optimised, intelligent transport networks/cities

• strong delivery background in integrated transport systems, transport modelling, systems engineering, solutions architecture, tolling or a similar technical specialism
• experience of delivering technology-related projects 
• ability to express technical narrative to engage clients and a wider audience 
• a curious interest in the technology and applications of intelligent mobility
• examples of market research and competitor analysis
• creativity in  promoting innovative processes and products
• experience of technical report production 


• previous bidding experience, and ideally experience in bid management
• experience authoring bid responses and ability to apply different commercial models
• clear understanding of link between effective delivery and profit 
• examples of identifying new commercial opportunities through client work 


• evidence of building effective networks, both internally and with clients 
• confidence  in presenting internally and to clients
• analytical and numerate problem-solver with the capacity to think complex issues through and develop effective solutions
• ability to discuss value propositions with clients with strong and compelling narrative
• knowledge and understanding of relevant public and private sector client networks 
• pro-active communication and a collaborative approach with at different levels of the organization 
• demonstrable skills in mentoring team members
• able to manage priorities in a high pressure environment
