International Tax Manager

This is a new permanent position for an experienced International Tax Manager to work within a tax advisory team of four introduced to support the growth and increasing complexity of Atkins global business. The role will be based in our Epsom Gateway office, reporting to the Head of International Taxes.


Overview of key responsibilities

To support the Head of International Taxes, liaise with the businesses and provide tax advice and assistance on all domestic and international aspects of the group’s operations, working collaboratively as part of a wider Tax & Treasury team that includes Compliance & Reporting, Employment Taxes and Treasury. Responsibilities likely to include:

• Liaise with businesses to analyze and advise upon the tax impact of the group’s international and other complex projects, joint ventures etc. Manage the tax input into commercial bids and the implementation of tax mitigation strategies.
• Advise on the group’s corporate structuring issues including on acquisitions, divestments and reorganizations, country start-ups and closures. Manage tax diligence projects and integration plans. Deliver deal summaries, implementation plans, structural analysis and technical notes.
• Provide advice and technical support to the Compliance & Reporting team e.g. on CFC analysis, overseas entity reviews, interest deductions, BEPS, tax audits, R&D credits, and transfer pricing.
• Analyze the tax implications of the group’s treasury and repatriation planning.
• Work with the Employment Taxes team in particular on international projects.
• Effectively manage a range of business and other stakeholder relationships.
• Provide tax desk support for ad-hoc tax enquiries from the group’s UK and overseas businesses.
• Monitor and analyze the changes to tax legislation that impact the group.
• Assist with the development, maintenance and delivery of group policy and procedures and controls. Develop and implement tools for efficient taxes management.
• Develop and deliver training sessions on tax matters to the group and its businesses.

Skills & attributes

• Qualified Chartered Accountant ACA or similar required, and CTA or International Diploma desirable.
• Substantial relevant PQE.
• Significant experience advising international businesses on tax.
• Knowledge of the engineering, construction, energy services or wider services sectors desirable.
• Proactive and able to manage and deliver projects, beginning to shape more complex projects with direction. Able to prioritize and juggle workload effectively.
• Excel skills and any experience extracting systems data would be beneficial.
• Demonstrates a keen interest in business and an inquisitive mind. Solution focused with an eye for risk and the financial and behavioral impact of actions. Appreciates the value of succinct communication.
• Able to apply technical positions to practical situations and to articulate complex tax issues confidently and persuasively to a broad range of stakeholders.
• Demonstrates strong research skills with ability to quickly and accurately interpret commercial, legal and financial data, and to analyze, advise on, and implement complex trading structures.
• Keen to develop new capabilities, resourceful, able to deliver at a high level under pressure. Professional and team orientated, energetic, focused, productive, and dependable.
