Atkins seeks an energetic, highly motivated, detail-oriented, self-starter to join our Miami, Florida team as an ITS Designer.

Job Duties:

Provides design and production of construction plans and drawings in support of engineering or architectural project(s); selects and recommends design procedures.

TS Outside Plant Mapping and Inventory
• Underground cable locating of fiber optic and electrical cables
• Global Position System (GPS) mapping of aerial and underground facilities
• Inventory of equipment sites
• Drafting field sketches and notes depicting as-built conditions and subsystem configuration
• Providing customer support to FDOT districts and regional partners

Encoding the ITSFM System
• Manually create and draw features:
- Linear features including conduit and cables
- Point features including equipment cabinets, support structures, ITS devices, etc.,
• Bulk database importing
• Creating feature associations
• Uploading as-built documents and notes
• Fiber optic cable splicing
• Creation and mapping electric circuits

Special Skills:

• Proficiency in CAD; good interpersonal skills.
• Incumbent must pass a Florida Statewide Law Enforcement Radio System (SLERS) background check.
• At least 5 years’ experience in Outside Plant engineering, construction and inspection including at least 2 years’ working with Intelligent Transportation Systems.
• Oral and written communication skills (system documentation, production reports, audit reports and technical specifications).

Desired Familiarity with computer software including:
• MicroStation or AutoCAD software
• GIS mapping software
• Microsoft Excel spreadsheets
• Spatial database software
• Development of outside plant construction plans development
• Outside plant infrastructure used by communication, electric utilities and transportation agencies
• ITS field equipment, system configuration and equipment specifications

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture or equivalent technical discipline, or Associate's degree plus a minimum of eight years' progressive drafting and design experience, including at least two as a Designer, or HS diploma (or equivalent) plus a minimum of ten years progressive drafting and design experience.
