As a Key Account Manager (KAM), you are responsible for managing a portfolio of large-spend rail industry clients and to sell to them the full range of SNC-Lavalin Atkins Rail Consulting’s products and services. As well as providing support across all Rail Consulting’s UK based offices and Group offices as required, the KAM is responsible for initiating new business opportunities, developing prospects and obtaining orders.


The KAM will be primarily responsible for developing business opportunities with both existing and new clients, including Rail Consulting’s most significant and important clients. They will help identify and gain an early and comprehensive understanding of business opportunities with target clients and target projects/industry initiatives - including the risk, competition and the likely winning factors. The KAM will keep abreast of market and competitor developments and activities and share this information whilst acting as a as "mentor" with further guidance, direction and support to junior members of the team.

As well as ensuring all client enquiries are responded to efficiently and when necessary, through to proposal submission, securing the order and payment, the KAM will act as "bid leader" to ensure successful significant bid completion for the larger enquiries and opportunities. They will lead 'Significant Tenders' including co-ordination of the internal quality process and develop responses to RFP/EOI as required. 

To be successful in the role, the KAM will need to develop effective internal relationships with the operational Rail Consulting teams across all UK offices, finance teams and the wider SNC-Lavalin and Atkins group.


Motivated by challenge and achievement and ideally educated to degree level, as the successful candidate you will have a high understanding of engineering with knowledge of rolling stock, rail systems & infrastructure and its related equipment. You will need to have strong inter-personal skills and the ability to build relationships at all levels, including Company Directors.

You will have a strong sales and account management background and have demonstrable experience of winning, nurturing and negotiating with our prospective and existing client base; including but not limited to Train Operating Companies, ROSCOs and Manufacturers.

To succeed in the role, you must also have very strong commercial, analytical and communication skills.
