Atkins seeks an energetic and highly motivated self-starter to join our Reno, NV Geomatics group as a Land Surveyor/Party Chief.


Under supervision, performs office work in the area of land surveying. Duties include records research, calculations, processing of field data, analysis, mapping and reporting.

Project types include heavy highway construction, aviation construction and general aviation surveys, aerial mapping control, boundary and right-of-way surveys, and FEMA projects.


Researches legal records to look for evidence of previous boundaries.

Records the results of surveys and performs survey computations from field notes to verify accuracy.

Analyzes data to determine or verify the location of boundary lines. Recommends adjustments as needed.

Prepares or oversees the preparation of survey drawings.

Participates in the preparation of record plats, maps and reports.

Utilizes CAD software to prepare or adjust maps and drawings.

Assists in the writing of legal descriptions.

May assist a senior surveyor in compiling field party chief notes and electronic data.

This position will require some travel up to 30% of the time.

Performs such other duties as the Supervisor may from time to time deem necessary.


Bachelor's degree OR an associate's degree in a related technical field plus eight years related experience OR high school diploma (or equivalent) plus ten years related experience is required.


Math/trigonometry computation ability; knowledge of CAD software; good communications skills, analytical ability and technical writing.


LSIT/LSI required. Current incumbents (as of July 2011) without LSIT are required to obtain registration within one year.

PLS is preferred.


Ability to access and understand legal records and field notes. Ability to operate calculator, computer and CAD equipment. Ability to interpret legal descriptions and field notes. Ability to effectively communicate findings and make recommendations. Ability to compose and write clear and concise reports and legal descriptions. Ability to travel up to 30% of the time if needed.

If position requires driving company vehicle, incumbent must have valid driver's license and a driving record that meets company policy.
