Lead Systems Testing Engineer

The Rail Engineering Projects Testing and Commissioning Team is an exciting and growing team, eager to grasp modern systems, processes and concepts, within the regulatory framework that we are required to work.
We are seeking a motivated and organised individual to join us and lead the principles testing of projects of all types, sizes and complexities.

You will need to be able to demonstrate an ability to work under pressure and to use initiative whilst working within a highly regulated environment.
Do you have excellent organisation skills and the ability to communicate with staff at all levels? Do you have extensive experience, knowledge and understanding of testing of electronic signalling systems equipment, including extensive experience of management of testing and the Tester in Charge role?

Reporting to the Testing and Commissioning Engineer (Systems), the work is primarily site based on projects, with some requirement for integration testing at our integration facility in Orpington. There may be a requirement to lodge away for extended periods of time and to work unsocial hours. You must hold a full UK driving Licence.

Requirements
• Experience in Railway Signalling Systems Testing/Commissioning of any size of Projects
• NWR Systems TIC certification, and Systems Tester In Charge, Systems Tester & Functional Tester IRSE Licence
• Thorough and detailed knowledge of Network Rail Signal Works Testing Handbook
• Appreciation and awareness of signalling / principles testing requirements
• A1 IRSE assessor for all Testing Categories including Systems Testing
• Substantial Railway Signalling & Systems experience especially in management of signalling Systems testing
• Good knowledge of Railway Group NWR company standards requirements
• Good personnel management and communication skills
• Able to work under pressure during intense periods of commissioning etc
• Current Driving Licence
• Able to deputise for the Testing & Commissioning Engineer Systems
• Willing to work flexibly and efficiently in support of the project.
• Able to contribute to the management team to provide the development and future direction for the testing group


Responsibilities
• Take overall responsibility for the testing and commissioning of new and altered signalling Electronic Systems for Major Works Testing of substantial Signalling projects.
• Undertake testing duties within the scope of Certificate of Competency held.
• Represent Atkins at Client meetings.
• Undertake Work Package Management responsibilities on Projects.
• Identify resource requirements for your projects and competent staff are utilised, ensuring they are briefed regarding their work and responsibilities and that any necessary documentation is completed.
• Encourage and promote the advancement of staff as a route to self development.
• Cascade management briefings as required.
• Deputise for the Testing & Commissioning Engineer Systems.
• Upward briefing of project testing status to T&CE and Project team as required.
• Ensure Audits and surveillances are undertaken in accordance with the Project Quality plan.
• Ensure adherence to the Atkins Rail standards, procedures, processes covering all engineering, safety, administrative and project requirements.
• Co-operate with quality, safety, and environmental objectives and contribute where appropriate to Atkins Rail commitment for continual improvement.
• Manage testing and commissioning of Signalling Electronic Systems equipment to meet contract specifications, performance and safety parameters.
• Manage effective utilisation and allocation of project based Systems testing resources both internal and subcontracted.
• Prepare and check bids for accuracy and price for the Systems testing portion of signalling projects
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of processes and procedures, and innovations and initiatives.
