Marketing and Communications Manager - Strategic Rail

Atkins transportation division is bidding for, winning and delivering some of the biggest and most exciting transformational engineering projects both in the UK and overseas. As part of our growth plans we need to recruit a Marketing and Communications Manager to enable continued success and support our ambitions.

Sitting within the strategic rail market team with a dotted line into the marketing communications function/UK&E campaign director, this role will have a primary focus on the Strategic Rail market.

You will manage the planning, coordination and delivery of all marketing communications activities, events and campaigns within this market, in line with Group wide policies and brand guidelines and integration with other divisions.

Working closely with the Strategic Rail Market and Client Directors you will help position and promote Atkins’ products, services and transformational projects by planning and delivering multi-channel external marketing activity aimed towards key client stakeholders and prospect opportunities.   You will also be an integral part of UK&E wide campaign teams.


  • Management and delivery of the rail marketing plan and marketing activities across multiple channels
  • Provision of expert advice on the most appropriate approach, content and channel mix and strive to uphold Atkins quality and brand standards
  • Proactively seek new channels to market and engage with our audience in different ways
  • Monitor short and long-term measures of success and takes responsibility for delivery and evaluation of successes
  • Co-ordinate a strategic approach to conferences, speaking opportunities and networking events
  • Work as part of UK and Europe wide campaign teams on specific transformational projects and market growth opportunities
  • Marketing and communications support to internal Atkins divisional account teams
  • Work closely with other functions such as internal and external communications and graphics
  • Support rest of Marketing communications team where required.


To ensure that you are successful in the role you will need to be able to demonstrate the following qualities and attributes: 

  • Proven ability to create and successfully deliver effective marketing and communications strategies in line with market and growth expectations
  • A creative problem solver with a ‘hands-on’ approach to providing and implementing marketing and communications solutions
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrable marketing and communications experience, preferably with experience in a B2B marketing environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to persuasively build and articulate compelling arguments
  • Ability to work collaboratively across Atkins to draw on relevant expertise
  • Ability to develop and retain strong internal and external client relationships
  • Able to support business development and client strategies that align to large frameworks and long-term sales cycles
  • Proven ability to influence and manage diverse stakeholders to achieve outcomes
  • Marketing or other business-related degree or equivalent qualification
  • Professional Certificate in Marketing with the Chartered Institute of Marketing, or equivalent recognised institutional body (or working towards)
  • Previous experience of a marketing or communication role within the rail market is desirable.
