Subsea Mechanical Engineer

The Role

Joining our Oil & Gas Engineering & Consulting business in Aberdeen, you will have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects, including front end design, consultancy studies, integrity management of subsea infrastructure, and decommissioning. This opportunity is to provide value adding, specialist, engineering support across our entire range of clients as a part of our highly experienced Subsea Engineering team.

Working with key North Sea clients, you’ll be delivering various consultancy support services for all types of subsea facilities. In response to client requirements, you’ll be responsible for the development and updating of client documentation, completion and close-out of bespoke engineering studies, completion of analysis and calculation to support resolution of engineering problems, and providing insight and support into all aspects of integrity management. 

You will be successfully contributing to the delivery of consultancy studies, conceptual and front-end engineering designs, and decommissioning studies for subsea and pipeline systems. This includes working with others to identify and develop new technical methodologies as well as communicating and maintaining client relationships, with a view to winning more work and contributing to successful proposals and tenders as applicable.

You will be able to manage your own cost and time targets to deliver efficient, high quality engineering and preparation of associated clear, concise, high quality reports. You will be working in a team of engineers to execute projects, and with pool resources from other teams and external contractors, where appropriate and will have the opportunity to develop your capabilities in line with the requirements of the Atkins career paths.

The Person

Building and developing relationships is a key part of this role. In addition to building relationships with our clients, you will be able to work with other teams to develop cross-discipline capabilities, and have a co-operative and helpful attitude to colleagues and clients. You will have the potential and desire to progress to Senior Engineer status and beyond. In addition to having the ability to cope with rapidly with challenging problems, and bringing a flexible approach to adapt to individual situations, other key requirements include:

• Proven success in delivering engineering projects against external and internal time, cost and quality objectives. Experience of applying appropriate quality assurance and reporting.
• An understanding of the fundamentals of subsea and pipeline engineering, and of relevant codes and standards.
• Experience of concept / feasibility and FEED studies
• Experience of decommissioning studies is considered advantageous
• Experience of FEA is considered advantageous.
• Engineering degree (honours or equivalent) in mechanical or similar engineering discipline. 
• Working towards Chartered status is considered advantageous
• Self-motivated, positive, enthusiastic, reliable, consistent and mature approach to work – appropriate to delivering growth in the face of challenging market conditions. 
• Willingness to develop a wide range of skills and flexibility to work on variety of projects.

Within the oil and gas area, our services are focused on upstream operations engineering i.e. maintain safe and efficient operations for operators, and offshore engineering encompassing fixed, floating and subsea facilities. Additionally, we operate selectively in the onshore mid-stream and downstream markets.
