Atkins seeks an energetic and highly motivated self-starter to join either our Intermodal Rail & Transit Group as an National Rail & Transit Sector Manager. This position can be based in any of SNC-Lavalin’s Atkins office in the United States.


MAJOR FUNCTION/ROLE

The National Rail & Transit Sector Manager directs and oversees the assignments, activities, and resources of the Rail & Transit sector housed within the Intermodal client-facing Business Unit (BU). Provides leadership, direction and guidance to project directors and managers within the Rail & Transit sector to ensure proper execution of projects. Actively works with both business unit directors, managers and sales directors to develop and implement strategy and to identify opportunities for staffing projects, pursuits, and to encourage cross-selling. Ultimately responsible for client relations, quality control and safety, and financial performance for the assigned sector. Typically responsible for annual revenues over $15M.

JOB DUTIES

Strategy and Vision:
Works with the Intermodal BU Director, Intermodal BU Manager and other Sector leads to develop and implement a strategic vision for the Sector and assist with directing and coordinating efforts toward realizing vision. Ensures the sector vision contributes to overall BU goals and vision. Activities will include: planning, developing, and implementing strategies to expand geographically and services for the sector. Reports progress against developed strategy quarterly.

Client Management and Service:
Works with BU leadership and the Technical Professional Organization (TPO) management teams to ensure effective delivery against company goals and priorities and drive BU Sector client service activities. Develops client management needs and forecast and procure staff to ensure delivery for projects based in the sector. Works with the TPO team to staff and deliver projects. Participates in the recruitment and selection of candidates for senior level jobs within the sector.

Business Performance/Contracts and Financials:
Ensures all projects within the sector are delivered successfully against developed key performance indicators. Works with BU and sector leadership to development and deliver annual growth budget. Reviews financial performance of projects being managed within the sector. Directs immediate remedial actions to avoid financial losses and client dissatisfaction. Negotiates and executes non-standard contracts and those as specified in the Authorization Matrix. Other key financial elements may include: Recommending operating budgets and development of capital and BD expenditures for the sector; Responsible for monthly financial close reporting for the sector.

Growth and Sales:
Coordinates with the Intermodal BU Director, Sales lead and other sector managers to drive sales and growth for the sector. Coordinates and prioritizes sector marketing activities with the BU sales leader and staff. Recommends possible clients and/or project pursuits for the sector. Maintains contacts with primary current and prospective clients, including initial contacts, presentations, negotiating agreements, keeping client apprised of work progress, and ensuring client's satisfaction; identifies and works toward the resolution of client relations problems. Represents the firm at appropriate industrial, professional, technical, civic, and government circles to enhance company image and communicate its capabilities. Attends and plays a leadership role in professional/technical associations and encourages participation of staff to promote the firm's name as well as to maintain state-of-the-art knowledge of professional discipline.

Project Delivery/Project Production and Management:
Evaluates the sector’s ongoing project activities to ensure that high quality standards and productivity levels are maintained, and to keep abreast of status of major projects. Ensures deliverable quality and enforces compliance with established quality control standards, ensuring that appropriate quality assurance activities are being performed throughout the sector. Assists managers within the sector in the selection of methods and in the solution of technical problems to maintain or improve profitability; assists in resolving conflicts concerning work with resources from the TPO or with other business units.

May perform other duties as the Supervisor may from time to time deem necessary.




EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree in Engineering. Post-graduate degree preferred. Management coursework and/or MBA a plus. This level may be achieved by technical professionals or technical managers with 20 years of experience since B.S., with at least five of these years in a senior operating management position.


SPECIAL SKILLS

Excellent technical and interpersonal skills. Proven ability to manage large scope operations and provide leadership to multiple levels of management. Must have business vision, excellent communication skills, and be able to represent the firm effectively to staff, clients, and the community in general. Promote high performance and consistent accountability at all levels within the sector.

Experience within the Rail & Transit Engineering industry is required.


PROFESSIONAL REGISTRATIONS

P.E. license is preferred.
