We’re now looking to the future, working with Small Modular Reactor (SMR) developers to advance new designs and developing digital applications, such as virtual and augmented reality, for the nuclear industry.



What you’ll be doing

We have opportunities for undergraduates across a range of our Nuclear and Power teams in the UK.

Summer – Whitehaven
Industrial Year – Bristol, Glasgow

Bristol – Our Electrical, Control and Instrumentation team in Bristol supports a variety of nuclear clients; ensuring the safety of critical control systems, and developing systems for new-build nuclear facilities We are looking for candidates on track to achieve an electrical or electronic engineering focused degree. You could be involved with the design of systems to support a new generation of nuclear power stations, developing solutions to ensure the ongoing operation of the current nuclear fleet or decommissioning legacy sites and facilities. Numerous opportunities are available to support our clients remotely as well as being able to deliver work from their offices and, potentially, power stations. We are looking for candidates with an electrical or electronic engineering focused degree disciplines who have a keen interest in the nuclear energy sector.

Glasgow - Based in our Glasgow or Bellshill office you will be on track to achieve an electrical and/or electronics engineering related degree. Within the team, you will find yourself working primarily on projects in the generation, nuclear fuel route and gas storage sectors . Some of our current projects include, design, specification, integration and substantiation of electrical equipment, controls and instrumentation as well as plant testing and commissioning. The role could therefore include substantial time spent on client sites. We’re looking for bright, enthusiastic and diligent future engineers, looking for a technical challenge.

Whitehaven - Based in our Westlakes office on the edge of the stunning Lake District, our team supports clients within the Nuclear industry to deliver innovative solutions in a challenging environment. You will be part of our fast-evolving EC&I team who strive towards using cutting edge technology in a diverse range of projects. Recent projects have incorporated the design, specification, integration and substantiation of all three aspects of EC&I engineering. The ideal candidate will have a keen interest in the nuclear sector and is passionate about incorporating digital design into their work.

In addition to some of the responsibilities you can see above for specific locations you could also be involved in:
• Supporting on some major projects across various areas of Energy from nuclear decommissioning, new power generation and transmission, to nuclear new build projects
• Carrying out design and assessment for electrical generation, transmission and distribution systems
• Working in partnership with our clients to provide professional consultancy advice, helping them deliver their complex engineering programmes
• Reviewing and developing designs to improve plants, equipment, grids and Energy related systems
• Carrying out surveys and site inspections, building strong client relationships
• Using a variety of engineering software packages, as well as 2D and 3D modelling for new designs and modifications

Who we’re looking for:
• You’ll be on track to achieve a 2.2 Masters/MEng degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Electrical Control and Instrumentation Engineering or any other Electrical related degree
• You’ll have ambition, vision, enthusiasm and the drive to keep on developing your technical skills
• You’ll have a passion for working in a consultancy environment, you’ll want to work with customers both internally and externally and you’ll be adaptable and happy to cope with change
• Communication and team-working will be your key skills as well as having the ability to apply your technical knowledge to analyse problems and create innovative solutions.
