Atkins seeks an energetic and highly motivated self-starter to join our Houston office as a Ports & Marine Structural Engineer.

Major Function/Role:

This position will be responsible for the structural design and production of diverse projects located in Miami and throughout the US. Under general direction, provides technical expertise within area of specialization for diverse engineering activities throughout the assigned area of responsibility and/or company-wide. Particular focus will be support of projects at Port Miami and other area Florida Port and coastal projects.

Job Duties:

Structural design and analysis, performing calculations and preparing calculations packages.
Work involves coordination, research and problem solving on a variety of engineering projects with unique or controversial problems, the solution of which has an important effect on major organization programs.
Work closely with Architecture, designers, other discipline engineers and project managers as part of a multidisciplinary project delivery team.
Ensure that all structural engineering deliverables comply with applicable codes and standards.
Ensure all project documentation and deliverables are reviewed in accordance with corporate QA/QC procedures.
Perform construction administration functions including shop drawing reviews, site visits and RFI response.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s in Civil or Structural Engineering.
Master’s Degree is preferred, or willing to pursue Master’s degree.
This level may be achieved with ten years' experience since B.S. OR nine years’ experience since M.S.
Typical incumbent has 4-8 years of experience in civil and/or structural engineering.
Must have passed Engineering Intern examination and either have PE license or be able to test for PE license within 18 months.

Special Skills:

Must have considerable CAD experience with Autodesk AutoCAD or Civil3D. CAD sample work will be required upon application and in-person test may be administered during interview process.
Proficiency with Structural analysis software, i.e. STAAD, RISA 3D, GTSTRUDL, ETABS, etc.
Proficiency with Excel, Word, and MathCAD required.

Professional Certifications:

Must be able to acquire Florida P.E. License within 18 months of hire.
