Atkins Infrastructure business are looking to appoint a Practice Director for our UK Architecture and Masterplanning practice. The role will involve the leadership of over 400 professionals from across Atkins’ architectural, masterplanning and surveying disciplines, who are working with clients and projects across the globe.
This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious, creative individual to shape our National Architectural and Masterplanning teams. The individual will have extensive external client relationships and will have experience in managing large teams in similar organisations. The individual will lead a Practice of architectural professionals who are  involved in significant and exciting multidisciplinary projects across our key UK markets, including: Aviation, Cities & Development, Education, Energy and Transportation
The individual will be expected to inspire others to create world class designs and push the boundaries of design in terms of creativity, innovation and sustainability. As Practice Director, you will be responsible for enhancing our technical excellence, identifying and developing talent and working closely with internal teams to both win and deliver work across these target markets.     
The opportunity has been created by a reorganisation of Atkins Infrastructure business and will have a fundamental impact on our ambitious growth plans.

  • Develop and improve our external market brand in.
  • Lead and inspire architectural and masterplanning practice group recognised for designing creative architectural solutions for clients in the built and natural environment
  • Responsible for client development and winning work through maximising additional/repeat/follow-on work from clients
  • Provide line management to Practice Managers and Technical Directors
  • Drive technical best practice, knowledge sharing and process standardisation / optimisation across practice group
  • Liaise through the Director of Building Design with the Market Directors to establish resource demand based on pipeline of opportunities
  • Ensure skills and capacity meet the current and future needs of our target markets through recruitment and focused staff development
  • Identify where skills are not available in-house and work with partners to deliver projects
  • Motivate team members ensuring they are challenged, stretched and developed with succession plans in place
  • An established client relationship network in our target markets.
  • A track record in producing world class architecture, with the ability to inspire teams to push creative boundaries
  • A deep understanding of Architecture and the whole life design process in the built and natural environment
  • Proven experience in a leadership role, preferably in the same practice area or related area
  • Able to lead the practice position so that it has a reputation for technical innovation and service excellence
  • A broad understanding and experience of sectors including: Education, Commercial, Residential, Aviation and Rail.
  • Able to build and motivate a team and demonstrate good leadership qualities
  • Strong collaborative behaviours to allow interface with Practice Directors, Market Directors and other stakeholders
  • Customer centric; an ability and desire to engage with clients and to develop and expand technical capabilities to fulfil market and client needs.
  • Track record in business development, sales and delivery of consultancy services in our target markets
  • Ability to drive adoption of automation and digital skills and products.
  • Be available to travel across the UK and overseas as required
Role Location: Strong preference for candidates to be based from an Infrastructure Hub Office (London, Birmingham, Bristol, Epsom and Glasgow)
