Our Water Management Consultancy Practice forms part of the dynamic and evolving Infrastructure business of Atkins.  The practice undertakes notable and pioneering water resource, water quality and environmental management work in the UK and overseas; in particular, providing specialist technical consultancy support and development of new modelling and analytical approaches that underpin robust decision making against key uncertainties facing the industry including environmental sustainability, growth and climate change.

Following significant successes in securing major new water management frameworks with our clients across the UK we are looking for specialists and innovators in water resources, water quality and aquatic sciences at various levels of experience to join our Water Management Consultancy practice.

  • Lead delivery of projects within the Water Management Consultancy Practice and work collaboratively with other Atkins’ businesses.
  • Lead on delivery of key technical areas related to water quality
  • Support / lead enquiries and bidding for the future success of the business.
  • Maintain excellent professional relationships which can lead to repeat business.
  • To work effectively as part of a team and with other professionals (environmental scientists, engineers, planners) throughout Atkins to provide a consistent and integrated service to our clients.
  • Must have a degree in a relevant discipline and preferably relevant post-graduate qualification (with a focus on water quality, environmental chemistry or aquatic environment).
  • Solid relevant industry, consultancy or research experience, proven experience for the senior role.
  • Established reputation and technical standing in aquatic and marine biogeochemistry, environmental chemistry, bathing water quality, drinking water quality and river water quality assessment.
  • Specialist expertise in EU and UK environmental regulation (Water Framework Directive, Priority Substances and Sludge Directives).
  • A recognised track-record in leading water quality modelling (e.g. MIKE & Ecolab, Simcat / SAGIS, Infoworks etc).
  • Established relationships and collaborations with academic and research institutes in the field of environmental sciences, water quality and environmental chemistry.
  • Creativity and innovation evident from own work and published papers.
  • Excellent writing skills - clarity in scientific writing is key; demonstrated through existing work (e.g. scientific publications). Able to adapt writing style to produce documents for different types of audience, including non-specialists.
  • Existing contacts with academic or research institutes in the field of environmental sciences, water quality and environmental modelling would be an advantage.
