We require one experienced Principal or Associate Planner to be located in our Birmingham, Bristol, Warrington, Leeds or London offices. The person appointed will join a progressive planning and environmental team with a wide range of client interests within the public and private sectors. The position will seek to provide additional capacity to deliver our expanding workload in DCO projects, and will play a key role in the development of our growing national business, linking in with other parts of the Infrastructure business throughout Atkins. While the post would be based in one of our offices, there will be a requirement to work out of other UK offices or client offices, where the need arises, in order to meet the demands of fluctuating workloads.
 
The position requires a Chartered Planner, combining an excellent track record in planning, with particular experience in providing advice to our growing markets in the energy, transportation, water, commercial and aviation sectors.


Responsibilities
  • Identification, development and pursuit of new business and marketing opportunities in a range of sectors
  • Preparation of tender responses
  • Preparation of DCO, planning and TWAO applications and supporting documents
  • Provision of planning advice to external and internal clients
  • Management, including financial management, of projects
  • Resource allocation in liaison with the regional manager
  • Mentoring of junior staff
 
Requirements
  • A relevant planning degree
  • Chartered membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute
  • Relevant post qualification experience in a planning role, ideally in both the public and private sectors 
  • Experience in the management and delivery of DCO projects
  • A sound, in-depth knowledge of planning law and procedures, including the changing planning system at national, regional and local levels
  • Capability to work alongside and co-ordinate a range of technical specialists providing input into planning submissions and EIAs
  • Excellent project management skills for multi-disciplinary projects
  • Proven ability to manage budgets
  • Numerate and confident in the use of and analysis of data
  • Consultancy experience is an advantage, as is a need to demonstrate commercial expertise

  • Ability to work under pressure, and have proven success in meeting tight deadlines
  • Confident team worker, but able to work with limited supervision
  • Commercial awareness and business development skills
  • Flexibility to work in other UK offices according to workload demands
