Principal Consultant – Transport Consulting & Advisory

The Transport Consulting & Advisory (TCA) practice is SNC-Lavalin Atkins’ strategic management consultancy arm based in Central London dedicated to addressing the transport sector’s most challenging problems worldwide. We work on transformative projects across a range of core capabilities including commercial strategy, investment and economic advisory, major procurements, transactions/due diligence, rail franchising and scheme development/sponsorship, across all modes of transport.

Our Transaction team is now seeking an ambitious person with proven experience and skills in:

  • Management consultancy.
  • Strategic problem solving for transport sector clients.
  • Building and managing client relationships.
  • Winning repeat business and playing a significant role in successful bids.
  • Assignment leadership and delivery.
  • Team leadership and line management.

Job Description        

The successful applicant will be articulate, numerate, highly dynamic and enthusiastic and looking to progress their career within a growing team of specialist commercial and financial consultants in the transport sector.

As a Principal Consultant you will regularly be responsible for delivering a range of commercial and technical assignments supporting clients of the Transaction and wider TCA business. These could typically include preparing robust analyses of the likely effects of, and risks associated with, business decisions as part of undertaking due diligence on transport investment or disposal propositions. In doing so you would lead and manage team members in achieving optimal results.

Other project involvement could include contract design, asset valuation, benchmarking, cost and revenue forecasting/optimisation or advising on tolling and fares strategies among other topics. You will work closely with our wider TCA team in support of a holistic offering to our clients, contributing to business development, proposal writing and project delivery across TCA’s business.

Essential Experience & Skills

  • Proven experience in a multi-disciplinary / management / Big 4 consultancy with focus on transport or infrastructure industries.
  • Advanced analytical skills, understanding of economic concepts, ability to draw out valuable insights and sound judgement.
  • Excellent communications skills, personable and capable of writing fluently with clarity and precision.
  • Good knowledge of transport markets combined with specific sector interests (rail and other public transport, freight, highways, aviation, etc.).
  • Strength and resilience in working in complex stakeholder environments under tight timeframes.
  • Ability to motivate others to achieve the best results in dynamic environments.
  • Experience using economic and/or financial computer based models and appraisal tools.
  • Exceptional client focus and commitment to clients' requirements.
  • Interpersonal and relationship building skills and a willingness to help develop TCA’s teams and contribute to capability building and future planning.
  • A strong commitment to business development.
