Do you have the drive, skills and experience to work with us as a Principal Consultant supporting the leadership of Atkins’ Contaminated Land and Hydrogeology (CLAH) team in Epsom? 

Atkins’ infrastructure business is looking to appoint an experienced consultant with a strong technical, people and project management skillset to join our growing team based in Epsom. Reporting to the CLAH South East Practice Manager, you will be responsible for managing and growing an existing team of talented individuals to deliver some of the most exciting and iconic infrastructure projects. Your work will involve local, national and international projects being delivered by Atkins including the development of Cities, Transportation and Energy Infrastructure.

From this class-leading technical foundation, you will help us face challenges and take advantage of the digital revolution and embed innovation in delivery to clients. 

Our team use the full range of their skills, working on water resources and land contamination projects as well as providing innovative solutions to engineering challenges. Our client and project base is highly diverse with current projects in the nuclear new build sector, oil and gas, regeneration and redevelopment, and major road and rail projects. In common with our team, you will have considerable experience in land contamination, working with developer clients, and experience across a portfolio of projects working with private and public sector clients in the investigation, assessment, remediation and redevelopment of brownfield land, and the contaminant and engineering hydrogeology of major infrastructure. 

We are looking for a highly motivated, experienced and adaptable individual with excellent interpersonal, technical, project management and client management skills; a proven track record of successful client and regulatory engagement; the ability to complete technical authorisation; and capable of delivering the high standard of geo-environmental consultancy services for which Atkins is renowned.

•Project Management and the technical delivery of a wide variety of projects ensuring delivery on time, within budget and to a high standard. 
•Provide people leadership, technical guidance, oversee career and talent development and manage employee performance. 
•Liaison with clients, stakeholders, regulators, sub-contractors and other internal disciplines. 
•Business development skills to support senior management in developing new business and the preparation of commercial offers to maintain and expand the current client base. 
•Working with the local and wider Atkins team across the UK. 
•Continue to develop own competence and maintain CPD with support from the business. 

•Proven experience in a team or people leadership position, in the CLAH discipline area. 
•MEng, MSc, BEng (Hons), or BSc (Hons) in a relevant science or engineering subject (e.g. geology, geotechnics, hydrogeology, chemistry, environmental science). 
•Demonstrate a proven track record in contaminated land with knowledge and experience in Phase 1 Desk Studies, Phase 2 Site Investigations, options appraisals, remediation design, supervision and verification / validation for a range of different types of projects and clients. 
•A background in hydrogeology is desirable, but not essential. 
•Demonstrate a proven track record of project management of contaminated land and brownfield projects including managing project teams resulting in delivery to high standards. 
•Chartered (or actively working towards chartership) with a relevant professional body. If not Chartered, we would expect the candidate, with our support, to become chartered 6 to 12 months after joining. 
•Good working knowledge and demonstrable understanding of the relevant legislation, technical guidance and industry standards and best practice for contaminated land and hydrogeology. 
•Be able to mentor junior staff and technically check their work, and complete peer reviews of other consultants’ work. 
•Commercial awareness and understanding including being able to complete tenders. 
•Full UK driving licence. 

This role may require security clearance and offers of employment will be dependent on obtaining the relevant level of clearance. If this is necessary it will be discussed with you at interview.
