Atkins Nuclear Solutions US is currently seeking a Project Accountant to join the nuclear team in Richland, WA.




Responsible for reconciling project related accounts, preparing invoices to customers, calculating revenue, reviewing ETCs and providing project data to project management. Performs general and project related accounting activities, including the preparation, maintenance and reconciliation of ledger accounts and financial statements, such as balance sheets, project status reports, and project reviews. Prepares, records, analyzes and reports accounting transactions and ensures the integrity of accounting records for completeness, accuracy and compliance with accepted accounting policies and principles. 




  • Performs general ledger and project related accounting functions
  • Manages, prepares and processes required accounting entries (e.g., accruals, deferrals, reclassifications and fees) as directed by project managers and/or as required by the project contract.
  • Ensures contract compliance for timely and accurate billing and revenue recognition.
  • Reviews new contracts and modifications to update system financial information from contract such as labor bill rates, billing milestones, retention, and funding ceilings.
  • Produces monthly accounting reports for financial statements and monthly management reports. Compares actual costs to estimates and analyze variances.
  • Assists in timely collection of accounts receivable and detailed reviews of unbilled revenue.
  • Manages all functions of accounts receivable including the calculation of the most complicated customer invoices and contractual issues.
  • Prepares, examines or analyzes accounting records, financial statements or other financial reports to assess accuracy, completeness, and conformance to reporting and procedural standards.
  • Supports external and internal audits and due diligence requirements.
  • Performs reconciliations and analysis for assigned balance sheet accounts.
  • Participates in month-end, quarter-end and year-end closings.
  • Assists in preparation of consolidated financial statements for external reporting.
  • Responsible for moderately complex accounting activities.
  • Responsible for supporting the various audits as they relate to assigned general ledger and project related accounts.
  • Responsible for analyzing financial data, preparing internal management reports and helping with ad hoc requests for financial information and reports
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


  • Bachelor's degree required in accounting
  • 4 years general accounting experience
  • 6 years general accounting experience is preferred
  • Experience using JDE or Oracle is preferred



  • Working knowledge of general ledger functions and US GAAP and IFRS Reporting
  • Working knowledge of Federal Acquisition Regulations
  • Experience with government approved billing rates and how they vary from internal cost rates
  • Experience in project accounting particularly with revenue recognition and job costing
  • Advanced proficiency using Excel, including creating pivot tables and other data manipulation techniques
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage confidential information
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Working knowledge of accounting systems
  • Detailed knowledge of revenue recognition principles
  • Ability to perform complex accounting tasks
  • Basic JDE skills preferred
