Practice Director – Project Delivery

Building trust and confidence in our delivery is a priority for Transportation. We are seeking individuals to join the Senior Leadership Team of our Project Delivery Practice to ensure we are positioned to successfully win and deliver our most complex projects today and develop the right project delivery capability for the future.

Transportation is a division in Atkins where the 3,000 talented engineers and professionals work to shape the future of transportation. The UK transport sector is experiencing unprecedented levels of investment and Atkins is playing lead roles in projects such as high speed rail, designing major new road schemes and upgrading our existing networks to deliver future demand. Our consultants are working with government and local authorities to develop integrated transport strategies to ensure the urban areas we live in continue to work. Our investment in new skills and technology will change the way we travel in the future.

The unique breadth of services in transport combined with our scale makes us the leading UK transport consultancy and we are seeking talented individuals who can inspire our people and collaborate with our clients to ensure we continue to shape the future of transport.

The objectives for the Practice Director role will be:

The Transportation Division in the UK has an extensive portfolio of major projects and programmes including highly complex EPC contracts for Network Rail, design projects for contractors for the largest UK infrastructure schemes and long term partnership frameworks for Local Authorities.

All these require exceptional project leadership and a key requirement of this role is to ensure that we develop a team of highly proficient project directors and managers, with the appropriate support, capacity, capability and tools to manage our most risky and complex projects. The role needs to bring together the appropriate commercial and project controls support to build delivery teams to both win and deliver work in our Transportation markets.

Maintaining a pipeline of growing project leadership for Atkins by spotting and nurturing talent from across the division and providing demonstrable development opportunities for those choosing the Project Management career path will also be a critical success factor.

The development and performance of this project delivery practice sits at the heart of the new Transportation division and the Practice Directors will need to provide line management and support to this community and ensure that they remain supported whilst immersed in their respective projects. Delivering our promises on projects externally and internally will be vital and will also require the direct involvement of the Practice Directors as Project Leaders on bids, projects and frameworks.

The Practice Director will report directly to the Project Delivery Director.

Whilst we are flexible on location preference would be given to candidates who can be based in our key locations (London, Birmingham, Manchester).
