The Atkins UK Infrastructure Project Delivery Practice (PDP) is the centre of excellence for the delivery of infrastructure projects and the home unit for our project management staff. The team is responsible for delivery of design services across our Markets of Water Infrastructure, Defence Infrastructure, Aviation, Energy, Stations and Urban Developments. These may be delivered as single major projects or a programme of smaller projects. Our Clients include, AWE, Berkeley Homes, BAE Systems, DIO, EDF, Environment Agency, Gatwick Airport, Heathrow Airport, High Speed 2, Horizon, London City Airport Metropolitan Police, United Utilities, Scottish Water, Sellafield, Seven Trent Water, St Modwen, Thames Water, Transport for London.

We have exciting new opportunities in our Project Delivery Practice for Project Directors. Roles will likely be based from our Infrastructure hub offices - Birmingham, Bristol Epsom, Glasgow, London and Warrington - with travel expected depending on project or client requirements. Project Directors will be responsible for delivery of multi-disciplinary projects from concept through to construction, on our expanding portfolio of the biggest and most challenging projects across all Market Sectors.


The Project Director will be responsible for (but not limited to) the following activities:

• Overall responsibility for delivery of projects to contractual arrangements and the financial outcome agreed;
• Providing Leadership, direction and mentoring to Project Managers, responsible for large scale multi-disciplinary teams developing high quality solutions on time and budget;
• Facing and Liaising with senior stakeholders, including Client Project Directors (or equivalent) to resolve issues early and safeguard our interests and secure additional work through performance;
• Ensuring appropriate resources and expertise are made available and that an appropriate project management framework is in place;
• Coordinating with global resource leaders within Atkins to share work and to work collaboratively across the Atkins Group; 
• Working with our key clients to maintain and develop excellent professional relationships which can secure repeat business;
• Presenting to clients and key stakeholders in a professional, responsive and client focused manner;
• Agreeing commercial strategies for bids and approving fee offers; 
• Expanding the Atkins business and assisting with the delivery of business targets;
• Responding to and dealing with any contractual/commercial risks as soon as they are identified; develop Project risk management strategies;
• Carrying out regular Project reviews using Enterprise Advantage (minimum monthly) to encompass all aspects of project delivery – including financial (PSR and Earned Value), commercial, risks and opportunities, delivery, health, safety, quality and environmental considerations, identifying and reporting and specific Client KPI’s measured;
• Preparing bids, draft and negotiate consultancy contracts
• Understanding the balance between support and challenges for Project Managers and peers

Requirements:

• Chartered Engineer or equivalent with demonstrable experience managing design commissions on large infrastructure projects
• Market sector experience across a range of Water Infrastructure, Rail, Aviation, Defence, Energy and Urban Development projects
• Excellent interpersonal, organisational and communication skills both verbally and in writing
• A hard working and flexible individual, who is a team player, possesses great attention to detail, is reliable, proactive and shows initiative whilst able to keep cool under pressure and when working to often demanding deadlines.
• Ability to build and motivate a team and demonstrate good leadership qualities 
• Self motivated and able to work both independently as well as within a larger multi-discipline team
• Ability to contribute to business strategy for growth and expansion
• A high expectation of performance for themselves and other members of the team
• Customer client focused with excellent relationship management skills
• Ability to communicate effectively at all levels
• A supportive and encouraging approach to mentoring less experienced members of the team
• Ability to adapt to different cultures and working environments to build rapport with clients and team members alike
• Experience with private and public sector clients and appreciates the different drivers and approach to management and procurement 
• Understands and has experience in deploying various forms of construction contract, in particular NEC3
• Be available to travel across the UK and work away from home, including periods overseas on assignments, when required
• Programme Management experience at a senior level with a successful track record of managing and delivering multi-disciplinary Projects 
• Experienced at preparing and reviewing Scope Definition papers, Project Execution Plans, Risk Registers, Change Control Logs and Client & Stakeholder Management plan
• Experience of the project planning and statutory processes 
• Ability to research information and data independently and ability to resolve contractual issues
• Proven ability to keep control in pressed situations, deliver work within set timeframes and create a well motivated team and ability to find solutions to complex organisational problems
• Experienced at dispute resolution and conflict management of both a technical and commercial nature. Able to defuse situations and influence key parties in order to attain the desired outcome
• Holds a valid UK driving licence


This role may require security clearance and offers of employment will be dependent on obtaining the relevant level of clearance. If this is necessary it will be discussed with you at interview.
