Atkins, Balfour Beatty and Egis Road Operations, are part of a consortium, creating Connect Plus Services, a unique partnership with a collective strength in highways asset care from finance, through to design, build, maintenance as well as day to day operation.

 

As part of our 30-year remit to manage and improve the capital’s orbital motorway network, we deliver major improvement projects, such widening 38 miles of the M25, refurbishing tunnels and bridges, and installing hundreds of variable messaging signs and gantries, helping to maximise the use of the network and deliver more reliable journeys. We also manage the Dartford River crossing, and operate and maintain 440 kilometres of motorway providing our customer and road user with a world-class highway service.

 

We are looking for a Project Engineer – Lighting to join the team working out of our Dartford, Leatherhead or South Mimms offices.

 

As a Project Engineer you will support the Construction Manager, other Schemes Engineers and Night Supervisors in their day to day duties of overseeing the safe delivery of all construction works carried out on the M25 network. In particular, the Project Engineer will manage and monitor the delivery of lighting and energy projects on the ground, seeking to deliver CPS’ objectives focused on the six key areas of performance: Health & Safety, Quality, Cost, Environment, Delivery and People.

 



Responsibilities:

  •  Pre-Construction commencement:
  • Assist Asset Team and Designers with development of scheme scope and detail
  • Plan and manage site investigation phases
  • Co-ordinate the production of the monthly look ahead programme
  • Assist with the booking / liaison / clash management and coordination of road space
  • Compile the scheme specific site folders for the Night Supervisor, for each scheme
  • Health & Safety
  • Achieve targets set for ‘Zero Harm’
  • Collation of Construction Phase Plan and Health & Safety Files
  • Safety Tours and working with H&S Team to close out findings
  • Attendance of community forums to contribute to continuous improvement
  • Construction Phase
  • Attend relevant meetings to improve understanding of the schemes, chairing own progress meetings where necessary
  • Attend regular site visits to develop an understanding of the works, to capture progress, carry out audits, etc.
  • Collate/track and upload daily diary records and Contractor testing results
  • Capture and compile construction element of monthly progress reports
  • Post Construction completion
  • Tracking H&S File production and ensuring delivery within allotted time requirements
  • Obtaining commissioning certificates from Contractors
  • Ensuring substantial completion and construction certificates are signed and uploaded to systems
  • Participating in Balanced Scorecard (lessons learnt/project review) sessions and taking ownership of actions as appropriate

 

Skills & Experience:

  •  Drive and a desire to deliver excellence
  • A track record of NEC Contract Management
  • Experience of working under collaborative arrangements e.g. an understanding of BS11000
  • In depth experience and knowledge of Health & Safety and CDM requirements
  • The appropriate skills to advise others when something needs immediate redress together with the tenacity and drive to ensure that the necessary action is taken
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Civil Engineering / Construction qualification and IT literate skills
  • Knowledge of what ‘good looks like’ and working understanding of other engineering and construction disciplines, along with a willingness to challenge ‘the norm’
  • A valid CSCS card and/or ECS Card
  • Understanding of Environmental requirements
  • Knowledge of Quality Management
  • Knowledge of Highways England procedures
  • Experience of lighting / electrical highways installations
  • Recent experience of coordinating a number of construction activities
  • Knowledge of temporary traffic management on high speed networks
  • Good Knowledge & Experience of BS7671 IET Electrical installation requirements
  • NRSWA Supervisor and/or SSSST or SMSTS trained
  • Relevant Electrical Qualification 17th Edition
