AtkinsRéalis Infrastructure is expanding our water framework portfolios both in the UK and Internationally, aligning with our vision and platform for growth globally, following a continued success in AMP7 period. We seek to appoint a number of Project Managers / Assistant Project Managers to join in our Water Sector team based at offices across UK.

The Assistant Project Manager role might suit an individual with good demonstrable knowledge of experience as a technical designer role in the water sector and would like to transition towards a Project Management career route.  As the Assistant Project Manager, you will be working closely alongside the Project Managers and coaching by the Project Managers in managing and ensuring the programme, cost, and quality control of the multidisciplinary project delivery.

We welcome candidates with project / programme management experiences in the water sector and a passion for engineering to support our team in winning and delivering innovative multidisciplinary engineering solutions for our broad range of strategic UK and international clients, across both Clean Water and Wastewater infrastructure and non-infrastructure areas. This includes treatment plants, desalination, pipeline and pumping stations, collection and storage systems.

The successful candidates will join our vibrant team of project managers and multidisciplinary engineers with a variety of water specialist skills in cross sectors delivery. You will have the opportunity to collaborate, in both infrastructure and non-infrastructure projects for a rewarding career progression.

Responsibilities: 

  • Project / programme management of delivery across UK and international project lifecycles: feasibility studies, front-end to detailed design (incl. Design and Build), and construction support.
  • Supporting the project technical team in the successful delivery of the project to meet the agreed targets, e.g. programme, budget and quality.
  • Identifying, escalating and managing any matters that could pose a potential contractual / commercial risk to AtkinsRéalis.
  • Setting of project scope, objectives, and defining tasks for the project team (including Inter Trading Task Orders).
  • Project management of the delivery – both technically and financially, in accordance with AtkinsRéalis corporate and business operation governance. Monitoring and reporting performance against programme, technical quality, financial and KPI targets; effective mitigation actions and managing change control process.
  • Stakeholder’s management and clear communication, co-ordination and information flow between the Client or Contractor Partner, including any subcontractors, and within the design project team (internal and external).
  • Preparing the project delivery programme and delivery plans; providing project reporting on a regular basis to convey cost and schedule information (monthly Board report, in a timely manner, as required internally or externally). 
  • Timely invoicing and effective credit control for optimal cash flow; managing project revenue against forecast and identifying risk allowances, margin and provisions – at project set-up and monthly thereafter, including Earned Value reporting. 
  • Manage the project close-out on completion, archiving project documentation, updating Market information, ensuring that lessons learnt are captured and disseminated internally and ensuring that a Client Satisfaction survey is initiated.

Requirements:

  • Degree qualified, equivalent of a recognized professional institution (MAPM, APM Project Management Qualification (PMQ), CMI) or practical experience of project management in water/wastewater infrastructure or non-infrastructure projects.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational and communication skills both verbal and written.
  • A proactive and flexible individual, who is a team player, possesses a good attention to details, is reliable and initiative for continuous improvements whilst adaptable to working to demanding deadlines.
  • Collaborative working with the clients, contractors and across external/internal project teams to ensure successful and cost effective delivery of projects.
  • Ability to manage and motivate a team and demonstrates good leadership potential to influence a high performance team delivery.
  • Experience with Scope Definition papers, Project Execution Plans, Risk Registers, Change Control Logs and Client and Stakeholder Management plans.
  • Experience of managing small and medium sized projects to time, cost and quality objectives and familiar with programming and earned value techniques.
  • Self-motivated and able to work both independently and within a large multi-discipline team.
  • Adaptable to different cultures and working environments to build working relationship with existing and new clients and team members alike.

Desirable

  • Market sector experience in water or wastewater infrastructure and non-infrastructure.
  • Experience of Design and Build projects and bid delivery in the water and/or wastewater engineering sector. International experience is beneficial but not essential.
  • Is familiar with the issues and management surrounding project delivery from multiple design centres, including the use of global design facilities.
