The role

Atkins’ Energy UK & Europe Business delivers a range of services including engineering design from Front End Engineering Design (FEED) through to detailed design, asset integrity management, consulting and analysis work for the oil and gas, power, nuclear and renewable energy markets.

In Project Management, there’s no such thing as a standard project. We thrive on solving problems and our aim on every project is to come up with the right solution for our clients, utilising experience from our extensive project portfolio but avoiding a one-size-fits-all approach. Our project teams are multi-skilled and comprised of a wide range of experts, all working together and supporting one another on a daily basis.

We are looking for a motivated and experienced Project Support Officer to join our team based in Epsom.

This is an exciting time in Atkins, and the role provides the individual with significant development opportunities that arise through working in a growth area in an expanding team, which has a structured path into Project Controls & Project Management. You would normally be working as part of a team and we are happy to invest in training and development for the right individual.

Responsibilities of the role will be;
  • Performing and delivering allocated project tasks, as directed by your Project Manager; 
  • Understanding the project and business goals and helping to achieve them;
  • Assisting in tracking project costs and producing finance reports, identifying any anomalies or opportunities for savings or efficiency improvements through better management; 
  • Ensuring accurate and timely invoicing is carried out;
  • Ensuring compliance with the Business Management System;
  • Maintaining databases and registers as directed by your Project Manager, for the purposes of Project Control;
  • Providing and supporting a best practice approach to document control
  • Prompting Project Managers for timely inputs to the finance reports and the project management reports
  • Prompting for customer feedback forms, inputs to the Lessons Learnt database
  • Prompting inputs to and maintaining team skills database
  • Assisting preparation of operational management reporting
  • Preparing document templates to a professional standard, and giving guidance where necessary on the Stage Gate and Project Management Processes.
  • Providing co-ordination support for bid proposals

The Person

As well as having experience of working within a similar, project support role, supporting a project manager / director within an engineering / technical sector, you’ll have excellent verbal and written communication skills and will be experienced and confident in dealing with staff at all levels, and be able to develop good working relationships with project managers.

Flexible and self-motivated, you will be able to work on your own initiative and are capable of managing your time effectively with the ability to prioritise your own workload. With skills in organisation and planning, you are comfortable in working to challenging deadlines. You will be confident and able to work on your own or, as part of the wider team.

Skills / experience in the following would be desirable;
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel and MS Project
  • HNC or degree level qualification (or equivalent) 
  • Experience using project management systems
Additional Information
  • This role will close on Wednesday 20th September
  • Some work outside normal office hours may be necessary. Travel to and from client sites and/or temporary secondment to client’s offices may also be required.

There will be opportunities for international travel and applicants with a desire for non-UK based assignments will be welcomed.
