Probablistic Safety Analysis Engineer

If you are a Probabilistic Safety Analysis (PSA) engineer with experience within the nuclear industry, then we are waiting for you to join the team. We are looking for candidates that enjoy assessing risk for nuclear facilities, liaising with clients and have excellent communication skills.


The Role

As a PSA engineer within our growing Nuclear Safety Analysis discipline, you will work on consultancy projects for a range of clients in the nuclear industry. You will be required to develop and deliver PSA models, analyse and interpret results, support decision-making in the design and operation of facilities and report outcomes through the production of high quality technical reports.

You will develop robust PSA models by engaging with clients to build a thorough understanding of the plant systems, relevant hazards and potential plant faults. In the role you will also support clients in managing their internal and external stakeholders, including the regulator.

You will be expected to contribute to, and learn from the wider nuclear safety community within Atkins, taking advantage of the global expertise we have across a range of engineering disciplines. 

The Person

You will be able to work autonomously or as part of a project team, and have a relevant engineering/science degree. You will either be a chartered scientist or engineer, or will be working towards this. In addition to PSA experience in the nuclear industry, you will be able to demonstrate the following:

• Experience of working on Level 1 and / or Level 2 PSA models, ideally for both reactor and non-reactor plants
• Knowledge of Light Water Reactor (PWR, BWR) technology
• Experience using PSA-related software, such as RiskSpectrum or CAFTA
• Experience in the quantification and review of PSA results, including support to the design process
• A solid understanding of the principles of nuclear safety
• Excellent technical writing and communication skills

You may also be able to demonstrate the below desirable requirements:

• Experience in human reliability analysis
• Experience in the development of Severe Accident Management Guidelines (SAMG)
• Experience on accident progression phenomena modelling using tools such as MAAP or MELCOR
• Experience of internal and external hazards PSA
• Experience of Level 3 PSA techniques and software, such as PC COSYMA, PACE, ADMS or similar

The Probabilistic Safety Assessment (PSA) team delivers work in the areas of PSA, equipment reliability and probabilistic consequence analysis. The Deterministic Safety Analysis (DSA) team delivers work in the areas of thermal hydraulics, design basis and severe accident analysis.
