Public Works Civil Engineer/Sr. Design Engineer

The Atkins Public Works Group is seeking a highly motivated, detail oriented, self-starter to join our Orange, CA office as a Civil Engineer / Senior Design Engineer. The Civil Engineer/Senior Design Engineer will support and lead projects for public works agencies ,water and wastewater clients in the greater Orange and Los Angeles County area, including planning and design related to public works, water and wastewater infrastructure.


JOB DUTIES
  • Designs and develops plans, specifications and estimates (PS&E) packages.
  • Performs planning and design activities for the public works projects such as street improvements including residential street rehabilitation, street widening, intersection widening, storm drain and site development projects
  • Performs hydrology and hydraulics modeling
  • Familiarity with local street and drainage requirements
  • Experience in local land development process and regulatory permitting agencies
  • Performs development plan checking and staff augmentation
  • Performs pipeline design and supporting hydraulic and structural calculations
  • Performs and/support water/wastewater related infrastructure projects
  • Preparation of technical reports in support of the project development
  • Provides construction support services such as reviewing shop drawings for conformance with contract documents; assists in recordkeeping and in generating progress reports; observes construction procedures
  • Prepares cost and quantity estimates.
  • Coordinates work with other engineers and professionals within and outside own discipline, and with support services staff.
  • Provides supervision and mentoring to younger engineers and planners as necessary

Project management experience including the following is a plus:
  • Develop project scopes, schedules, and budgets
  • Monitor/manage project production for compliance with schedule, budget and quality objectives
  • Maintain communications with team members, clients, and others involved with the project
  • Supervise multidiscipline teams with staff of varying experience
  • Support business development activities from identification of opportunities to preparing proposals and making presentations to clients
  • Uphold engineering ethics and professional standards of conduct.


EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
  • B.S. or M.S. in Civil Engineering. The potential candidate will have 5- 10 years of experience with a Bachelor's or Master’s degree. 

SPECIAL SKILLS:
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and strong technical writing and communications skills. Experience and familiarity with the following is preferred: AutoCAD, Microstation, various modeling package as required. Extensive working knowledge of Standard Specifications for Public Works (APWA Greenbook) is required.

PROFESSIONAL REGISTRATIONS:
  • PE license in CA is required.
