PLEASE NOTE: THIS POSITION WILL BE LOCATED IN THE RALEIGH, NC TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT CENTER.

What a Traffic Operation Center (TOC) Operator does:

Manages traffic congestion, planned events and unplanned incidents in a Traffic Operations Center and provides data entry and QA/QC for information in the State DOT Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS) or Advanced Traveler Information System (ATIS).
Typically works under supervision but must be capable of directing his/her own work, implementing response plans as outlined in the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and coordinating with personnel outside the facility.
Work generally involves relatively uncomplicated but varied tasks.
Responsible for gathering and disseminating information in a courteous and pleasant manner to reflect the Department’s high standards and professionalism.

Education and Experience:

High school diploma (or equivalent).
Experience in a position involving public contact and telephone responsibilities preferred.
Must be proficient with computer skills.
Occasional nights, weekends, holidays and emergency activations may be required.

Special Skills:

Excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills required.
Must have good command of the English language.
Ability to perform in a professional courteous manner and remain friendly while under pressure.
Must have an aptitude for geography and maps.
Must attend and pass Operator training provided for both TMC (Traffic Management Center) and NCTA (North Carolina Toll Authority).
