Atkins seeks an energetic and highly motivated self-starter to support electrical construction activities on-site, for a major client in Tampa, FL as a Resident Electrical Engineer.

Major Function/Role:

Under direction, apply full competency in conventional engineering work and broad knowledge of precedents in specialty area, including electrical construction methods and practices. The Resident Electrical Engineer must have the ability to clearly convey, to contractors and to the owner’s engineers, the design intent of engineering drawings and specifications.
The responsibilities of this position include providing engineering services related to construction activities, specifically for medium-voltage switchgear and generator controls. The candidate must have developed a thorough understanding of construction methods and the manner in which engineering drawings and specifications are interpreted and applied into the constructed product. The candidate is to uphold engineering ethics and standards of conduct.

Job Duties:

Performs work on-site during construction activities that involves conventional engineering practice, interpretation of drawings, observation of contractor’s activities, reviewing shop drawing submittals, responding to Requests for Information, evaluating the quality of the installed work and adherence to the construction documents. The work may include a variety of complex features such as providing resolution to conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials or procedures, or difficult coordination requirements.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering or State of Florida electrical journeyman license.
Eight to Ten years of experience of engineering design experience or five years, minimum, as an electrical construction supervisor with significant experience in medium-voltage equipment and construction methods.
Working knowledge of AutoCAD design platforms, Microsoft Word, Excel and scheduling software.

Special Skills:

Good technical writing, computer and communication skills.

Professional Certifications:

P.E. License is desirable but not required
