The Atkins ecology team has over 70 ecologists based in the UK and is committed to providing expert and pragmatic ecological advice throughout the UK and internationally. We have a reputation for delivering technically demanding projects with innovative approaches. Atkins works for a range of government departments, multi-national industrial clients, funding agencies and lenders, property developers, and regulatory authorities. Although the majority of work is expected to be regional, there will be technical collaboration and networking with all ecologists working within the company. We work extremely closely together nationally with technical networks for specialisms and opportunities to develop areas of strength with like-minded experts.

Are you looking for an exciting opportunity to develop your career within Ecology Practice. We are looking for a Supply Chain Manager to secure, manage and monitor our extensive supply chain to ensure our projects are resourced effectively. This role will also involve ensuring our supply chain are engaged with our technical expectations but also our culture of staff well being and safety. Responsible for presenting the Ecology Practice as a ‘best client’ to our supply chain to ensure we secure the best resources for our projects.

Responsibilities:

a. Resource management
1. Managing Current Resources
• Work with Practice and Project Managers to identify companies and people within the supply chain to deliver internal and external projects and bids.Manage the interaction and external suppliers to provide a seamless response to the resource demander.
• Be accessible to resource demanders and practice managers at all times. Otherwise, nominate a delegate and communicate this to all demanders and staff.
• Own the supply chain process within the practice and be responsible for promoting best practice at all times.
• Visit and engage with supplier teams to ensure we have built an open and honest relationship.
• Review performance of supply chain and devise, mobilise and ensure upkeep of an audit regime.

2. Identifying Future Resource Requirements
• Work with the Practice Director and Practice Managers to understand the medium to long-term resource requirements.
• Communicate and negotiate with the suppliers over resources to be provided in a timely manner.
• Escalate skill gaps/resource shortfall and work with Practice Director to formulate a solution.

3. Escalation of Issues to Practice Director
• Escalate supplier management issues and resourcing issues where necessary in a timely manner to the Practice Director. 
• Work closely with Practice Director to manage and implement solutions to resourcing issues.

4. Know and Develop Practice Talent
• Understand skill sets of our supply chain and internal requirements.  
• Ensure that the our suppliers have access to our technical excellence plan, any training which may be appropriate and that competencies are reviewed and monitored.

b. Administration
Supply chain process
• Define and own the supply chain management process.  Support staff with the process to ensure compliance. 
• Work with Practice Director and finance team to understand and manage the financial engagement model for our suppliers.

c. Ethos
• Exemplify the Code of Conduct with colleagues and external parties.


Requirements:

External qualifications & accreditations
• We’re looking for an ambitious, dynamic individual who is looking to take ownership of this role
• No external qualifications and accreditations are required.
• Background with engagement with external teams/stakeholders useful
• Background in environmental consultancy useful

• Appropriate expertise in use of resource management tools and methods
• General understanding of the principles and philosophy behind project management

• Ability to develop and maintain peer and senior manager relationships
