The Atkins Construction Management Group is seeking a highly motivated, detail oriented, self-starter to join our San Antonio, TX office as a Roadway Construction Inspector II.

MAJOR FUNCTION/ROLE

Under general supervision, researches and interprets contract requirements to determine whether construction work is proceeding in substantial compliance with plans, contracts, specifications and special provisions.

NOTE: Incumbents do not supervise any contractors' activities and are not responsible for job site safety.

JOB DUTIES

Reads contract plans, specifications, shop drawings, and regulatory agency manuals.
Observes construction work such as trench excavation, pipe placement, backfill operations, pile driving, structure placement, steel reinforcement, concrete pouring, signalization and lighting, etc.
Performs density and asphalt tests; samples and verifies certification of materials.
Reviews shop drawings within limited area of expertise; logs and reports materials and work.
Assists in directing the daily activities of less experienced staff.
Performs such other duties as the supervisor may from time to time deem necessary.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

High school diploma (or equivalent) plus ten years related experience OR an Associates Degree in a related technical field plus eight years related experience is required.

PROFESSIONAL REGISTRATIONS

No Professional Registrations required. May be required to obtain certification in nuclear density, aggregate, concrete and asphalt testing or other applicable areas.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Relevant TxDOT roadway, bridges and structures construction inspection experience.
Experience verifying construction steel reinforcement placement, concrete placement, drill shaft/pile driving, drainage structure placement, subgrade and base construction, signalization, CTMS, lighting, etc.
Experience interpreting testing of soil density, concrete, asphalt and other construction materials.
Experience interpreting TxDOT roadway construction plans, specifications and special provisions.
Experience resolving differences in interpretation of construction plans and/or specifications.
Experience working with TxDOT 2014 specifications.
Experience performing SW3P inspection and preparing documentation requirements.
Experience compiling and maintaining SW3P working plan set.
Experience performing barricade and signs inspections to ensure compliance with TxDOT and TMUTCD standards.
Experience monitoring construction phasing and TCPs.
Experience performing field measurements to develop pay quantities and pay sheets for actual work completed by the Contractor.
Experience using TxDOT SiteManager to record daily activity of work in progress and status of completion.
Experience assisting with the preparation of monthly estimates and resolving un-installed pay work.
Experience developing quantities calculations for change orders.
