Atkins has been providing infrastructure planning, engineering, construction, environmental consulting, urban planning, architecture, and program management services to public and private clients across the United States for more than 50 years.

Atkins seeks an energetic and highly motivated self-starter to join our Orlando Turnpike, FL staff as a Senior Transportation Engineer (Turnpike).

Experience:

• Typical incumbent has 12-20 years of experience.
• Florida P.E. license required.
• FDOT experience required.
• Interstate freeway or limited access experience required.


Education:

• B.S. or M.S. in Engineering. M.S. or graduate level technical coursework preferred.
• This level may be achieved by Engineers with ten years experience since B.S. or nine years since M.S.


Special Skills:

• Minimum twelve (12) years’ experience in transportation design, including limited access facilities.
• Minimum five (5) years’ of Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) design experience and familiarity with FDOT Policy and Procedures, including FDOT Design Manual (FDM) and FDOT Standard Plans, familiarity and experience with the Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise Design Handbook (TDH) a plus.
• Individual should be familiar with the following software packages: Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat Professional, Microstation, and/or AutoCAD Civil 3D.


Job Duties:

• Individual would be responsible for the review of project submittals including Design-Build (DB) and traditional Design-Bid-Build projects.
• Confirm compliance with State, Federal and Turnpike design criteria and Standards.
• Record review comments in Electronic Review Comments system, (ERC), and confirm compliance to comments with responses and subsequent submittals.
• Attend Progress and Design meetings on projects as required. Provide guidance to Consultants that are not familiar with Turnpike policy and procedures.
• Be available to respond to questions from Project Managers, Consultants, and Turnpike staff regarding technical issues.
• Prepare staff hour estimates and review Scope of Services prior to negotiations for original contract and Supplemental Agreements.
• Coordinate with Project Manager on units and staff hour meetings and with other disciplines to provide a multidiscipline approach to negotiations.
• Support the Turnpike Roadway Design Engineer and lead in the development and update of Turnpike criteria and design-related policies and procedures.
• Help to identify needed programmatic initiatives that can result in program or project efficiencies and safety improvements.
• Completion of minor in-house design tasks ranging from the preparation of concept plans to signed and sealed contract documents.
• Attend associated training and webinars to remain current with the roadway design discipline.
• Special assignment may arise that require research on a special topic and may result in publishing a report or preparing a presentation for other districts or Central Office.
• Individual may be required to represent the Client at Meetings, making decisions and recommendations on behalf of the Client concerning roadway design issues and disseminating the results of the meetings to the appropriate Client and GEC staff.
• Individual has the potential to be working full time in the client’s office, and must be able to communicate well with others.
• Position will require the ability to lead and coordinate meetings as well as work well in a team environment with other consultants in the client’s office.
• Position requires time management and organizational skills as the individual will be involved in multiples projects operating on multiple schedules.
• Individual should be comfortable speaking in small/medium sized groups with other engineering consultants and as well as the clients to provide engineering direction to the team.
