Atkins business seeks a Process Safety Consultant to join the Oil & Gas team in Calgary.

JOB SUMMARY

Our Oil and Gas Division is a leading independent supplier of engineering and specialist services to the Oil and Gas industry.

We provide Process Safety consultancy services across a wide range of clients and facilities covering oil sands extraction, gas production, offshore installations, terminals, refineries, petrochemical plants and pipelines, and work on some of the most exciting and varied projects in the sector with a proven track record of providing quality technical support.


RESPONSIBLITIES

  • Safety Consultants working within our Calgary office have responsibility for delivering high quality technical work. Your proven business and technical skills will enable you to contribute to developing the numerous business activities that Atkins provides to the Oil and Gas industry.

  • You will work in our Process Safety team, responsible for delivering studies such as HAZOP, Bow Ties, Fire and Explosion Modelling, Facility Siting and Quantitative Risk Assessment.

  • Your assignments will predominantly be based in our Calgary office, working locally for major operators and engineering contractors. Occasional travel will be required.

  • You will support the Principal Engineers in project work and ongoing client consultancy activities. You will be expected to lead smaller tasks and take on project management responsibilities.

  • You will be responsible to coordinate as part of the team with members from other departments within Atkins to provide an integrated service to the client.

  • You will be a vital member of our team and as such you will be encouraged to develop your technical skills to gain the experience necessary to take the next step to becoming a Senior Consultant.

  • You will be a P. Eng with APEGA, or are working towards this status.

REQUIREMENTS

  • A Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline, (Chemical, Mechanical, Petroleum, Energy, Risk Engineering, etc)

  • Over 5 years of relevant work experience, preferably in the oil & gas industry, with at least 2 years in the field of technical safety.
    Proven technical competence in undertaking and delivering risk analysis and risk management, with demonstrated skills in some of the following areas:

  • Scribe/Facilitation of process hazard analysis such as HAZIDs and HAZOPs

  • Consequence modeling of hydrocarbon releases, dispersion, fires and explosions, in addition to having up to date knowledge and practical experience of software used to support consequence modeling.

  • Quantitative Risk Assessment (QRA).

  • Automation/Coding (VBA, C++, Python, MATLAB, etc.)

  • Excellent technical report writing and presentation skills

  • Self-motivated

  • Client focused, with a drive to produce high quality work

  • A co-operative and helpful attitude to colleagues and clients

  • Reliable, consistent and mature approach to work

  • Able to work independently and in small teams

  • Acceptance of professional responsibility for work carried out

  • Ability to complete specifically assigned tasks to time and cost

  • Flexible in working hours when required
