Atkins is currently seeking a highly motivated self-starter to join our Houston Energy Team as a Senior Business Development Manager.


Manage business development activity for engineering and procurement projects to support the oil and gas industry including onshore, offshore and deepwater production facilities and floating production units.
In addition consulting services structural engineering, reliability availability & Maintainability, Pipeline & Subsea Engineering, Safety & Environmental Protection, Process Simulation &Fluid Mechanics, Naval Architecture, Marine Systems, Risers, and Mechanical.

Develop and implement local marketing, sales, and public relations activities to foster positive customer relationships and maintain and expand the firm's participation in business opportunities for oil and gas companies, EPC contractors and fabricators.

Manage the sales and business development process / pipeline for the business to ensure revenue targets are achieved.

Foster and develop positive customer relationships which result in increased business. Understand customer needs and assist in the development of project solutions that satisfy those requirements and provide opportunities for Atkins.

Maximize contact with key accounts, key contacts and other critical people at various client organizations and focus efforts to obtain new work and generation of new enquiries for the business.

Gather and analyze market intelligence for new projects and opportunities.

Ensure communication of customer needs and expectations between Atkins and the client.

Ensure prequalification of the organization with existing and potential customers, to enable us to be in a position to bid for projects.

Ensure that inquiries are screened, develop a sales strategy with the Business Leadership team, identify risks, and estimate profit potential

Ensure liaison with other departments as appropriate in relation to proposals, projects, legal, financing, tax, or other issues.

Liaison with Estimation, Finance and Corporate General Manager on submission of bid documents.

Maintain relationships with customers during project execution, especially from the point of getting client feedback and generating additional work orders.

Provide inputs to management based on market information to enable the organization to develop capability in areas to give us strategic leverage for future projects.

Prepare input to weekly and monthly reports regarding sales wins, losses, pipeline, proposal activity and general business development activity. Provide input to business strategy.

Performs such other duties as the supervisor may from time to time deem necessary.



COMPLEXITY: Manage business development activity to generate 25 to 50 MMUSD annual revenue.

DECISION-MAKING: Decisions generally involve significant commitments of resources (usually in terms of expenses connected with proposals, presentations and public relations efforts) or the solution of problems requiring a high degree of independent judgment, e.g., active participation in "go/no go" decisions, in project manager selection recommendations, or in working with the Business Leadership team to develop marketing strategies and selecting client targets. Authorized to make decisions on procedures and approaches at local level.

WORK DIRECTION GIVEN TO OTHERS: Coordinates, guides and/or reviews the work of marketing professionals and admin support personnel. Does not have hiring/firing authority. May provide guidance and suggestions to technical professionals and managers in the preparation of proposals and presentations.

INTERNAL CONTACTS: Technical, business development, and marketing professionals and managers.

EXTERNAL CONTACTS: Executives, project directors and project managers at major and independent oil and gas companies in addition to oil and gas EPC contractors and fabricators.




Bachelor's degree in field of practice. Management coursework and/or MBA a plus. Minimum 15 years of applicable experience in the oil and gas engineering industry in positions with progressive technical and/or business development responsibility. Experience in energy and marine sectors, international experience, global clients. 



Exceptional customer awareness and sales skills in the business development and marketing aspects in the oil and gas industry. Understanding of offshore drilling and production platforms, particularly for deepwater application. Familiarity with EPC delivery and execution planning for offshore oil and gas production platforms. Excellent Networking skills.

Job requires ability to travel. If local travel is required and no company vehicle is available, the use of a personal vehicle may be required. The incumbent must have a valid driver's license and a driving record that meets company policy. The vehicle must be in good working order and insured. Mileage reimbursement allowance will be available.
