Atkins Transportation is a leading supplier of engineering services to government, regulatory and local authorities, infrastructure owners and operators. Our world class team of professionals have extensive skills and expertise across the Transportation sector, which are applied at every stage of projects from feasibility through to detailed design, construction and whole life asset management.

We are now looking to recruit additional staff to support our ongoing expansion of business opportunities in Scotland. With an increasing and diverse portfolio of rail projects, Atkins is seeking a Senior Civil Engineer to be based in our Glasgow Office.

Working in a multi-disciplinary team of engineers, technicians and other professionals, you will be responsible for the delivery of designs including producing calculations, drawings and specifications to relevant standards. You will be involved in multi-discipline projects including, Level Crossing Renewals, Depot Design, Station Platforms as well as design / co-ordination for all lineside equipment (Overhead Line Equipment, Signals, Equipment Cabinets, Equipment Buildings, Telephones, Masts, Lineside Troughing, Lineside Fencing, Noise Barriers).

Your experience should demonstrate the successful design of projects meeting programme and budgets targets. Your communication skills and teamwork should be excellent, with the ability to present designs to clients and stakeholders.

You will be self-motivated and able to support the Civils Team Leader in delivering projects. You will be accountable to the Team Leader and will be expected to advise Clients and other team members with regards to the optimum technical solutions.

Requirements

• Civil Engineering Degree or equivalent qualification
• Chartered or Incorporated Engineer
• CRE experience (preferred)
• Demonstrable experience within a Civil Engineering Design environment
• Track record in design delivery including multidisciplinary design and approval process
• Up to date knowledge of current design codes and design software relating to Civil Engineering
• Ability to collaborate successfully within a project and team environment
• Ability to manage, motivate and delegate within a project delivery environment
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Proven ability to work successfully with Clients and advise on technical matters
• Flexible and engaging with resilience and drive to deliver projects to time and budget
• A thorough comprehension of the technical standards relating to design (particularly Network Rail Standards and have knowledge of the GRIP process)
• Ability to exercise initiative and sound engineering judgement and take ownership of project issues
• Proven ability to coach and develop team members including project planning, monitoring and control
• Hands on BIM/Digital competency
• Proactive commitment to health and safety
• Valid driving licence
• Excellent time management


Responsibilities

• Providing technical guidance on projects from an up to date knowledge of engineering and the process and techniques involved in design delivery and development
• Assisting Project Managers on technical aspects of designs from project initiation through to completion
• Mentoring and coaching team members and taking responsibility for the technical development of staff
• Solving engineering problems
• Developing cost estimates
• Checking and reviewing the work of others
• Using design and other software packages to deliver technically robust designs
• Liaise with key clients and be capable of discussing design / technical solutions to stakeholders including technical and non-technical Clients
• Ensure that projects are sufficiently resourced flagging up problems to the Team Leader and helping to resolve
• Delegating work to team members, programming deliverables and monitoring progress
• Identify and respond to project commercial risks and opportunities
• Support Team Leader in work winning including representing the business at networking evets, preparing bids and tenders and establish, maintain and develop relationships with existing and prospective internal and external clients
• Ensure successful integrated delivery of projects by working collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary environment including working closely with other offices
• Preparing tenders, working with internal market leads to help promote and sell Atkins services
• Prepare schedules of work, work breakdown structures, risk schedules
• Health and safety management of design including application of CDM 2015

This role may require security clearance and offers of employment will be dependent on obtaining the relevant level of clearance. If this is necessary it will be discussed with you at interview.
