Senior Civil/Structural Engineer

Join AtkinsRéalis, one of the world’s leading design, engineering and infrastructure consultancy service providers as a Senior Civil / Structural Engineer and play a pivotal role in the transformation of UK infrastructure.

The successful candidate will join Design and Advanced Technology (D&AT) within AtkinsRéalis Infrastructure business, with multiple office locations across the UK. The D&AT team is responsible for specialist technical areas that include seismic analysis, blast and impact design, and thermal and fluid mechanics. Focusing on advanced computer-based structural and dynamic analysis, the team deploys state-of-the-art tools and methods for the efficient design and assessment of unique and often complex civil structures. The team works across the core AtkinsRéalis markets, with multiple projects in defence, nuclear energy, renewable energy, rail and other markets.

The position is based in our Glasgow office but provides opportunities to work from home, and in other AtkinsRéalis offices. You will be able to work on a range of projects of strategic national importance. Our immediate commitments include the design and development of new nuclear power stations, and the upgrade and assessment of existing defence sites such as HMNB Clyde and Devonport Royal Dockyard. We are also involved in exciting projects such as High Speed 2 and the Dublin MetroLink.

About the opportunity:

We are looking for a talented civil / structural engineer with previous experience from academia or consultancy. You should have a strong understanding of engineering principles and structural mechanics, and an ability to apply your technical knowledge to analyse problems and create innovative solutions. You should have experience in using computer code and other digital tools and software. Most importantly, you should have ambition, vision, enthusiasm and the drive to keep on developing your technical skills.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Undertaking technical work such as finite element analysis or design calculations.
  • Working in technical delivery teams, delivering a range of projects to completion, within budget and to programme.
  • Production of calculations and reports to the required quality standards.
  • Building internal relationships and help identify business opportunities.
  • Maintain and promote high standards in environmental protection, safety, health, security and quality.
  • Providing technical and professional guidance, support and development of more junior engineers and technicians.
  • Supporting business development activities including preparation of proposals.

Requirements:

You should be able to demonstrate some or all of the following-

  • A strong academic background with a relevant Honors degree or equivalent.
  • Chartered Engineer status (MICE, MIStructE or equivalent).
  • Experience in the use of computer software for numerical analysis (ideally Abaqus or ANSYS).
  • Experience with the design and assessment of reinforced concrete and steel structures.
  • Familiarity with design codes and industry standards for safety-critical industries (for example ASCE 4).
  • Previous site experience.
  • Ability to lead a small team of engineers.
  • An up-to-date professional development record.
  • Fluent English and good communication and presentation skills.
  • Affiliations with relevant bodies and learned societies such as SECED.
