Senior Civil / Structural Engineer

The Role

Working within our Nuclear and Power business in Bristol, you will be working on a range of varied projects of national and international significance, at the forefront of addressing modern energy needs. You will cultivate strong working relationships with our clients, develop a comprehensive understanding of their needs, and thereby enable work to progress with confidence and professionalism.

You’ll take technical leadership of civil or structural engineering projects and be delivery focused with a track record of delivering projects to time, cost and quality.


The Person

A questioning mind and an ability to challenge and interrogate in different situations is a key part of this role. You’ll have an agile mind with an ability to adapt to different working scenarios and will be used to working in a strong health & safety culture.

Building strong and trusted relationships is an important aspect of this role. You’ll enjoy working with others, you’ll be client focussed – being able interface with clients and understand their needs – in addition to a strong team ethic to allow you to work across disciplines within Atkins.

Specific requirements include:
• Chartered civil or structured engineer
• Technical leadership of civil or structural engineering projects, including first principles analysis and knowledge and use of relevant UK and international codes and standards.
• Willingness to travel to client sites and spend periods of time embedded in client teams.
• Degree qualified (with a degree accredited by The Institution of Civil Engineers or Institution of Structural Engineers, or another recognised body)

Experience of one, or more, of the following aspects is desirable:
• Experience of working as part of multidisciplinary design team.
• Previous experience of the Energy sector or other highly regulated sectors.
• Leading single discipline civil and/or structural teams.
• Design of concrete, steel and masonry structures using recognised codes and standards.
• Recognised training or considerable experience with engineering software packages, preferably including FE analysis.
• Construction/implementation of engineering designs.
• Inspection or appraisal of existing concrete, steel and masonry structures.
• Design and validation of structural modifications.
• Design and analysis of structures under dynamic loading such as seismic and/or impact is beneficial.
• Bid writing and the ability to win work.
• Management of projects to time, cost and quality and use of project management processes.
• Contract and commercial management of engineering projects.
• Design and/or analysis of offshore structures.
• Pastoral Care and Line Management of other engineers.
• Excellent communication skills in written and oral context; competent in technical report writing and presentations.
• ICE Supervising Civil Engineer/Delegate Engineer or other professional mentor status.

Additional Information and Benefits

Travel to other Atkins premises and client sites will be necessary. You should be willing to work flexibly and outside of normal working hours to satisfy the requirements of the role. Periods of time seconded as an embedded team member on client sites is likely.
