Our Transportation UK SE Division is currently seeking Senior Civil Engineers in our Croydon office to support the delivery of a wide variety of multi-disciplinary railway projects both locally and across the UK. Knowledge of Highways projects would also be desirable Using your excellent people, technical and delivery skills, you’ll drive a variety of civil and structural designs for new build, renewal, maintenance and assessment works.

You will be part of one of the largest transportation consultancies in the UK, and a leading supplier of engineering services to government, regulatory and local authorities, infrastructure owners and operators. Major clients include Highways England, Local Authorities, Network Rail, London Underground, HS2, Train Operating Companies, Design & Build Contractors and other niche clients. You’ll also have the opportunity to work on overseas projects and with our internationally based design teams.

You will have a background in civil engineering design and delivery of a range of multi-disciplinary projects within either or both the highways and railways environments. You’ll be familiar with working in large, geographically dispersed multidisciplinary design teams on projects at varying stages of development from feasibility through to detailed design and construction.

Essential
• Proven experience in rail.
• Rail knowledge and knowledge of Network Rail’s GRIP process and the various deliverables required at each stage is desirable.
• Undertaken role of CRE/CEM
• Be able to carry out designs, design calculations, reports and specifications to industry and national standards
• Membership or close to membership of a relevant professional body, such as the Institution of Civil Engineers or Institution of Structural Engineers.

Responsibilities
• Lead the technical delivery of civil engineering projects / civil engineering input in to complex, multi-disciplinary projects.
• Use analytical skills to derive potential solutions to engineering problems and engineering judgement to appraise different options and recommend the most suitable option.
• Oversee the production of and review high quality design documentation including sketches, drawings, calculations, reports and specifications.
• Carry out designs, design calculations, reports and specifications to industry and national standards
• Stay abreast of industry developments and changes in standards. Ensure that all design submissions produced by those under your supervision are compliant with all relevant standards.
• Developing more junior staff by technical training and mentoring.


Requirements
• Membership or close to membership of a relevant professional body, such as the Institution of Civil Engineers or Institution of Structural Engineers.
• Previous Design experience is essential including knowledge of design calculations, reports and specifications to industry and national standards.
• Willingness and ability to be involved in the delivery of civil engineering projects and also of the civil engineering aspects of complex, multi-disciplinary projects.
• Sound understanding of technical principles underlying civil engineering, particularly civil engineering structures.
• Experienced in the production of drawings in collaboration with CAD technicians
• Sound understanding of Network Rail, London Underground standards and technical assurance procedures, plus relevant design standards, including Eurocodes. Sound knowledge of Microsoft Office programmes, particularly Word and Excel.
• Proven track record of producing high quality deliverables with little supervision.
• Relevant rail industry experience of working within a design consultancy essential. Wider knowledge gained from working within a contractor and/or client organisation desirable
• Be highly motivated to deliver against demanding programme and cost targets.
• Sound interpersonal skills and ability to converse with a wide range of Clients and colleagues across a number of engineering disciplines
• Excellent spoken and written English.

Desirable
Proven competency in the design and assessment of Highways Infrastructure projects, with an ability to analyse them appropriately according to project stage and complexity;
