SNC-Lavalin’s Atkins business seeks an energetic and highly motivated self-starter to join our Melbourne, FL Coastal Team as a Senior Coastal Engineer.

 
MAJOR FUNCTION/ROLE

Under direction, applies full competency in conventional engineering work and broad knowledge of precedents in specialty area. On design assignments, understands how to clearly convey the design intent to engineering drawings and specifications. On assignments involving engineering investigations and planning work, has a firm grasp of the fundamentals of engineering processes and their application to operating systems. 
 
The successful candidate will have a P.E. and 7 to 10 years’ experience with coastal, marine and dredging projects with an understanding of coastal environmental issues. Candidates should have a M.S. degree in Coastal, Civil or Environmental Engineering. Responsibilities for the position includes providing the expertise of a seasoned coastal engineer to all conventional aspects of coastal engineering projects and applies advanced concepts and techniques to engineering problems. 

 
JOB DUTIES
  • Performs project design, sketching design concepts to be developed by junior engineers
  • Plans and reviews production of plans and specifications, investigations and studies
  • Develops and evaluates plans and criteria for new projects, weighing alternatives and selecting the most cost-effective solution
  • Analyze technical problems, asses feasibility and devises new approaches and alternative solutions
  • Analyze project dimension and scope
  • Prepares cost and manpower estimates, schedules and budgets
  • Coordinates work with project manager and guides junior staff and technical personnel
  • Responsible for maintaining quality standards and quality control

 


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE 

  • B.S. or M.S. in Coastal or Ocean Engineering, M.S. is preferred. 
  • This level may be achieved by Engineers with four years' experience since B.S.; three years experience since M.S. Incumbents typically have six to ten years' experience since Bachelor's degree.
  • The ideal candidate would have 7-10 years’ experience in execution of coastal engineering/ restoration project planning, design, permitting, construction and monitoring. 
  • Experience with inlet maintenance, sand bypassing and port and harbor engineering a plus. 


PROFESSIONAL REGISTRATIONS

  • P.E. license is required.


SPECIAL SKILLS

  • Excellent interpersonal, technical writing and communications skills with a proven track record in successful execution of all phases of coastal engineering/restoration projects including, planning, design, permitting, construction and monitoring. Understanding of client relationships and project funding mechanisms, policies and local approval processes a plus. 
  • May be eligible to receive project management training.
