In a rapidly expanding nuclear energy market, the Nuclear Business at AtkinsRéalis are seeking a Senior Commercial Manager who thrives on teamwork with a strong desire to deliver for both internal and external clients.  In this role you will be at the forefront of leading and supporting one of our Major Refurbishment Projects, managing and balancing project commercial and financial risk.

We are looking for someone who has experience of working in the Engineering, Manufacturing or Construction sector and enjoys a variety of work including the delivery of commercial solutions and improvement initiatives.  With a desire to work in the nuclear sector you’ll enjoy approaching things in different ways always, looking for opportunities to make improvements to deliver the most efficient and effective solutions for the project.

Your role within the team:

  • Have the overall responsibility for leading the Contract Management function on a Major Refurbishment project within a Joint Venture environment.
  • During the initial 6-12 months, you will work closely with the Joint Venture Leadership, to develop and refine the commercial strategy and ultimately negotiate the main project agreement for the delivery phase of the project.
  • Act as the point of contact to Client for contractual matters.  Must be able to deal with the client on delicate matters tactfully and professionally while protecting all JV Partner interests.
  • Supervise and provide support to Project Contract Management and Administration project personnel, ensuring that personnel are trained qualified and competent to perform their assigned tasks.
  • Liaise with and provide guidance on contract matters to the project team at all levels.
  • Review, negotiate and draft project commercial agreements, including confidentiality agreements, purchase orders, contracts, consortium agreements, joint venture agreements and, having regard for their practical application and inherent risk.
  • Assist in formation and administration of contracts with Subcontractors and ensure that required and relevant terms and conditions are flowed down to Subcontractors.
  • Identify and analyze potential commercial risks and liabilities associated with ongoing project and associated supplier agreements.
  • Prepare project specific contract administration manuals based on corporate template.
  • Assist project staff with the interpretation and practical application of contract documents.
  • Assist project staff with identification, documentation, and quantification of changes in the Work and claims.
  • Obtain the assistance of the appropriate Legal department, as required.
  • Liaison with Project Controls Manager, Project Finance and Project Leadership to monitor and manage the financial health of the project.
  • Provide presentations and workshops, as required by the Supervisor, to the employees with respect to contract administration including, corporate policies, procedures, and guidelines, change and delay management.
  • Access to confidential information to support medium-and long-term financial analysis and planning.
  • Attends steering committee meetings between AtkinsRéalis and other partners and prepares minutes of meeting recording agreed decisions and actions going forward.
  • Other duties as assigned.

The ideal candidate:

  • University degree in Engineering, Finance or Law, or an MBA, with at least experience in a similar role in a construction or high technology industry. Formal training in contract law or contract administration is an asset.
  • Experience in commercial governance, contract management and project delivery.
  • Experience in Intellectual Property management.
  • Proven ability to organize, set priorities and handle multiple complex tasks at one time consistent with corporate processes.
  • Understanding of client and client organizations, objectives, personnel, and environments.
  • Ability to reconcile usually disparate objectives of buyer and seller as contracting parties.
  • Superior communication and writing skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and take initiative.
  • Strong administrative and organizational skills.
  • Experience in communicating with various stakeholder groups from internal project staff to clients, subcontractors and the executive team.
  • Ability to effectively present information at both detail and summary level. Ability to interact with executive management and operational level staff.
