Our talent and capability within the Nuclear Sector is highly recognised, and being involved in a new generation of UK Nuclear Power Stations means that we are now looking for Senior Commercial Managers within the Industry Sector as part of our Commercial team to support our Clients project teams working on Nuclear New Build programmes.
 
This position covers projects in the West Region and will involve being based from our network of offices, client offices and sites.
 
In conjunction with the Commercial Lead, the Senior Commercial Manager will develop a Commercial Team appropriate to the scale and phase of the contract / portfolio of contracts. This will include establishing clear roles, responsibilities and accountabilities for each member of the team. Reviewing individual progress against accountabilities on a monthly basis and at formally annual and quarterly reviews and establishing individual training plans and ensuring training and development commitments are carried out in a timely manner so that the team is fully resourced with competent and experienced people.
 
The Senior Commercial will effectively and efficiently manage the work of the function, in compliance with internal and external mandatory requirements and therefore meet the expectations of all our Client’s key stakeholders. This will be carried out in particular by ensuring that all people in the team are aware of their responsibilities for health and safety and that all necessary protective gear is provided and is in good working order. Aligning and planning the work in accordance with the approved project programme and reporting on progress as required. At all times the Senior Commercial Manager will ensure that all Principal Accountabilities for the contract commercial team are implemented in accordance with our Client’s commercial procedures.
 
The Senior Commercial Manager will adopt the role of the Intelligent Customer ensuring that all our Client’s stakeholder needs and expectations are met with regard to commercial probity and value and that the supply chain is treated fairly and equitably by establishing communication and information-sharing approaches to deliver success. The Senior Commercial Manager will be accountable for establishing effective methods to learn from experience and to mitigate future risks.

We are looking for astute and motivated Senior Commercial Managers to be responsible and accountable for:

 

  • The day to day management of Commercial Managers and/or Commercial Assistants under their control.
  • Consideration of the nuclear baseline and distribution of nuclear safety significant responsibilities within the team.
  • Providing support to the procurement process during the procurement phase (pre award).
  • Managing a team in the commercial management of contracts during the execution phase (post-award).
  • Managing a team in the delivery of contract final account agreements (close out).
  • The delivery of the contract(s) in accordance with our Client’s governance requirements to meet the project and business objectives.
  • Professional development of self and people within the team.
  • Ensuring that all Principal Accountabilities (see below) are implemented in accordance with our Client’s Commercial Procedures

 

 

To join us, you will have:

 

  • Full membership of the RICS / CICES / IOB or equivalent professional body is essential.
  • Educated to relevant degree level is preferable.
  • Have effective commercial/ contract management skills, with clear knowledge of best practice contract methodologies.
  • Possess skills to act as deputy to the Commercial Lead.
  • Able to demonstrate a considerable track record of administering successful contracts.
  • Highly developed commercial skills and demonstrable ability to make sound decisions on matters of significant financial value.
  • Good understanding of contract performance measurement, risk management and change/ claim management.
  • Experience with most common Forms of Contract (NEC & FIDIC) within the power construction industry and major projects and programme environment; with particular knowledge of UK Law and its impact upon the contract and commercial function is essential.
  • Demonstrable IT skills and literacy with ability to use commercial management tools such as, but not limited to, CEMAR and SAP.
  • Familiar with the nuclear site licence conditions and the nuclear baseline philosophy preferred (but essential).
  • Good understanding of UK regulatory frameworks

You may be required to travel regularly as part of the role so a full driving licence is required. You may also be required to undertake a Clients competency assessment panel prior to being placed in role.  The UK Government have taken steps to reduce net migration to the UK by limiting the number of overseas workers from outside the EEA coming to the UK for employment. Please note that whilst we are able to consider applications from overseas workers from outside the EEA (who require a Tier 2 (General) visa) we can only employ them if we can provide evidence that there are no other suitable candidates for this vacancy from inside the EEA.
